O'Shea has a pop at the board

Uh oh.

The Ellis Short apologists aren't going to like that. The board can never be questioned....no matter how crap we are or for how long.

I think John will be telling us a wheel is round next. What he says is entirely obvious, and maybe coming from the captain carries a little more weight. It could also be the first tentative move towards management, kicking the board means he can refer to this when he is being declared a puppet at the end of the season...

They have ALL made mistakes, JOS in that piece obviously doesn't think the players have so takes no responsibility for our flirtations with relegation, they voted to reimburse supporters for one such capitulation ffs! I can't believe I will have to put up with another two years of this shite....

It has been (for some time) a collective failure, and the only thing we need is a gaffer capable of pointing the finger at underperforming players, and then get better ones.

The problem we have had is in the appoinmtent of underperforming gaffers, so in part he is correct, but we take two thirds of a season to switch on, that is the players problem.

He's not saying anything that any reasonable fan hasn't been thinking themselves. We have without doubt underachieved but I think he's wrong to just blame the board and say it's not always the manager's fault because it patently was partly the fault of Di Canio and Poyet. He's right about the player recruitment though.....but then we all know that.

Let's hope it focuses minds at the club on the job ahead and some better decisions are made.

Agreed, however,it would have been more accurate of him to recognise that player attitudes and performances have also contributed. He,along with several others, have failed the club more than once, both on and off the pitch.

Don't like O'Shea anymore. He really needs to just retire.

He keeps getting progressively worse every season. He's probably the first one on the booze when we win 1 game in 10.

Undoubtedly....although I sometimes think the reasons are a bit more complex. I don't think players go out thinking they can't be arsed.....sometimes it's just a combination of poor leadership and direction by the coach and the tension that enters a player's game when you're constantly at the wrong end of the table.....Larsson alluded to that in his post-season interview. It's very tiring mentally and not conducive to free-flowing football.

Can't really fault that.

I've been blaming the board for a few years now. They have to accept the responsibility.

Probably would have lost more games with Cattermole being frozen out some more and Ji still playing.
While he wasn't exactly flavour of the month with Paolo Catts wasn't fit then was brought on for his last game in charge, so he mightn't have been 'frozen out' for much longer, and Ji didn't start his last two games in charge. Just saying.

All of it and the players none of it?

Yes,you're right and it's symptomatic of the whole lack of ethos and philosophy we suffer. However, these players are paid a fortune to perform week in and week out,not only on the pitch, but also in the dressing room and on the training ground. They might not go out thinking they can't be arsed, but some of them have often times gone out unprepared. Now that is the job of the manager,I know,to get them prepared, but players have to contribute and to be in the mindset to receive such preparation. Too often, their brains have left their bodies far too early in matches, and that's not acceptable from highly paid players at this very high level. Some of them seem to think that if they do one good pass or one good tackle or score one good goal that it's enough and somehow they've justified themselves. It's not unreasonable to expect top level attitude for 38 games, not a handful, and top level performance for the majority of those.Even in the games where a loss of form, for example, plays a part, you would still not expect complete breakdown such as we've seen more than once.

Whilst what he says is right, it was him who phoned the CEO to get rid of a manager. The hypocrite.
Well done JOS

Cattermole was training with the kids all summer and wasn't given a squad number.
