Like I said the other four are down to personal opinion. I am sure there are plenty of people who wouldn’t class it as any of those four

Fair enough.

Would you feel the same if the Green side of Belfast/Glasgow organised a Saturday afternoon stroll through the streets of Sunderland?

Mary returned home to see her Catholic family for the first time since she left 4 years earlier. Mammy, Daddy and younger brother Eamonn were over the moon to see Mary and it was hugs and kisses all round.
Mammy asks "So Mary, what have you been doing with yourself ?".
Mary lowered her head and said sheepishly "I'm a little bit ashamed to admit I became a prostitue, Mammy".
Well the Dad hears this and goes off it, stands up and rages at Mary "How dare you bring shame upon this family, young lady. Get out of my house and never darken my door again, you are a disgrace" he screams.
Mary breaks down in tears "I understand your anger Daddy, but before I would like to leave these gifts. I have paid for a builder to do the extension to the back of the house that Mammy has always wanted, here's the keys to a Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet for yourself, and here's a cheque for £20,000 to help put Eamonn through university. I'm leaving now Daddy but I hope you can forgive me one day" and she turns towards the door.
Daddy looks stunned "What .... wait .... where ...." he stammers. "Mary, wait. Where did you get the money to pay for this? How can you afford these gifts?" he asked.
Mary wipes her tears "I told you Daddy, I became a prostitute. I sell my body for sex, Daddy. I'm not proud but it pays well"
Daddy smiles and holds out his arms "Mary, my darling, come and give your Daddy a big hug. I'm sorry for shouting at you, I thought you said protestant"

I must walk around with my eyes and ears closed then, because I've never heard or seen one in Sunderland in the 66 years I've lived, mind, it's not the type of shite I'd be interested in either, so that could explain it.

Edit: just seen the Echo links, looks like I do..
In fairness the echo link quotes an orange twat saying it was their first in 2013. Dunno if there's been any since until the weekend.

Anything anyone is remembering from before must have been small scale and unofficial.

I can remember seeing them in the town c1990 mind. I stand to be corrected, but didn’t they also march in south Tyneside quite regularly in the 80s and 90s?

FWIW, I’m not defending them btw.
Echo says 2013 was the first - found a link to the article online.

It would be great if these marches were about the democracy and the enlightenment that 1689 revolution helped bring about, rather than a pissing contest over the best Jesus cult.
That spirit of enlightenment gave us the development of science, widespread education and eventually a representative democracy. It was founded on trust in knowledgable specialists and a sense of progress.
Modern society, with its distrust of experts, the sense of self-importance that gathers half a dozen facts and calls it a belief system and a harking back to 'better days' is exactly the opposite.
The echo chamber of social media promotes this. We old lefties used to call it 'false consciousness' when the turkeys vote for Xmas!
Bit off topic, but I woke up in a bad mood:evil:.

Fair play to you, but do we really need any of this shit in Sunderland? I don't see the relevance.

It's relevant to those who hold a deep resentment to Irish Catholics and to the Irish immigrant community in the UK.

Unless they have Ulster protestant connections/family, if an random English person has strong links to the Orange Order and isn't religious then I automatically would make the assumption that's the driving factor why they are attracted such an organisation in the first place.

Not in all cases, but usually.

Good post. Time false consciousness was talked about more widely on here.

Everything is subjective though. Or are you one of these pathetic people where if it’s something you don’t like or agree with it’s shite, ridiculous or stupid?

No, I’m one of those pathetic people who believes that a Masonic style society formed to protect the interests of white Protestants in a bygone era has no place promoting a cause that is nationalist, supremacist, divisive and bigoted in a modern and predominantly secular city where different Christian denominations have lived peacefully side by side for generations.

No need to bring the Freemasons into this.
Absolutely sweet FA to do with the Orange Order.
