Opposition chit chat (Coventry)

When we were promoted a couple of seasons ago it was difficult for us for the first half of the season. We were not ready for the pace that championship games can be played at. Also there are some very good players at the level. We only pulled away from the bottom towards the end of the season and finished 16th.

Last season we were in or around the playoffs until the end of the season when injuries caught up with us. We were good enough to do the double over Fulham who easily beat most sides. IIRC they had a GD of about 68 and we beat them 4-1 and 1-3.

The one advantage you have is keeping most of your side together. They know how each other play. But if they don't get up to speed quickly it will be a difficult start to the season. What we hope is you play attacking football against us especially as there will be a massive crowd. That would suit us perfectly. We attack on the break very quickly and have two good strikers. Gyo is very strong and goes past defenders and Godden has a cracking shot on him. Hamer will take the set pieces and O'Hare will terrorise you from the start to the 96th minute. Fittest player I have ever seen. If he could score more goals he would be in a decent Prem side.

So yes we have several reasons why many of us are confident of a win. But last season we controlled a lot of games and struggled to score and our opponents scored with their only shot on target. We even lost a game where the other side didn't even have a shot on target (OG)
O hare is put ain't he, with a bad hamstring tear?

Calling us "40,000 simpletons..."

Next post...

"Their tales will be up...
Tales of the unexpected?
Imagine just how massive Coventry City would be if they had a stadium and some supporters to put in it.

We are the team promoted from L! to this level via the playoffs, EVERY other team will expect to beat us until we prove otherwise.

Completely agree. Careful what you say though…look at me.

There is a certain group obsessed with thinking we are going to walk the league that when anyone else dares to think we are at a disadvantage being so new and inexperienced at playing football the way they do it in the Championship, these people see it as negativity and pessimism.

I think they’re a good team, in all sincerity. A little inconsistent which saw them drop off last season. They’ll be amongst the little group looking to get the last play off place alongside the likes of QPR, Millwall, Luton etc.

It will be a tough game for us and although early days will be a good indicator of how we will adapt.

That forum is full of clowns though.
Agreed. I like Robins as a manager despite his troop rallying brain fart during the week. They’ll finish higher than 12th this season with a shout of a play off place.
This place isn’t exactly a clown free zone either mind.

Dont be daft there are no SAFC supporters I have seen on here or I have spoken to who think we are going to walk the league.

It will be a hard season but I think the vast majority hope it will be a good one. The (hopefully) two or three signings over the next 4 weeks will likely determine our season.

Probably fair comment! :)

Robins 10,000 Coventry Stormtroopers statement has made him look a bit daft mind considering they could only muster 1,800. :)

They should be relatively confident, good manager who plays decent football, they’ve more than held their own whilst we are newly promoted.

Yes there are nuances to that but as most fans do they won’t pay much attention to the details and will just look at this on basic headlines.

I hope they under estimate us and we are fully up for it today as we might just surprise them

I think if this game is played in a months time after 6 games or whatever I'd say Coventry comfortable win assuming they get to the level most seem to expect of them.

But with today being the first day anything could happen.

Beware of Coventry being really strong in last 20 minutes. They score lots of goals at the end and with them seemingly having a strong preseason and us having a crap one in my opinion, fitness and guile might be deciding factor.

A win would be great , I'd be happy with a draw, but I think Coventry will be unbiased favourites.

The ticket sales were done badly. It was done on a points basis. If you go with your mates or family you couldn't buy until it reached how many the lowest person had. Then they were taken off sale on Thursday without warning with only 100 left.

We score lots of goals after the 90 minutes are up. The fitness of our players will be a surprise.

Literally every club who have decent support sell their tickets like that. It doesn't stop them taking thousands.

Your support is pitiful.

The fitness of our players has been surprising me for 54yrs.

Had a message yesterday afternoon from a Coventry supporting mate saying exactly this, hamstring gone and the word is 3 months, hes not one to bullshit either but i didnt want to look a muppet putting it up on here just in case.

We aren't seriously worrying about a player who virtually nee ones ever heard of are we ?

If he was outstanding, he wudnt be at CC.

Other than he would be one of the first names in any team in the Championship. We have had several offers for him but none have reached our valuation. I expect him to be gone before the transfer window closes.

You will understand by 2pm.
