O'Nien's Cameo Tonight

Laughable. I seem to remember a lot of early posts about the lad being well out of his depth, poor, bad signing etc. This is what happens when supporters/fans give their early (1 or 2 game) opinions about a player. FFS start judging football players after at least 20 games.

O'Nien has took a bit of time to settle, looks like he is finding his feet now and will be important to the squad as the season progresses. He is only 24 next month plenty of time to see how much potential he really has.
That's canny old in terms of potential like.

I like the lad, and love his enthusiasm as well, but this has to be a wind up, in no way did he change the game when he came on tonight?

Yeah not sure of some of the comments, he came on to make a nuisance of himself and close down quickly, that was clear from the off when he was intent on getting players faces and holding their lads from the first few seconds.

We had people calling for Jack Ross’ head on here after a run of draws. In both instances they’ll be waiting to rear their heads again when either have a bad patch and are generally beat just ignored.

TBF people judged too early, but it was based on him not being effective at all in central midfield. Now I didn't see him Saturday and know he scored so won't comment on that, but for me it's still to early to call and he's not shown anywhere near enough yet to say he's good enough or should be starting - he literally came on and ran about last night and got in opposition faces. That was his job and he done it. But he wasn't playing deeper running the midfield, playing the ball or dictating play, he was almost up front, he wasn't really getting on the ball and doing anything more than time wasting from what I could see, so as much as others judged too quickly I feel people have now gone completely the other way because of two cameos.

Im not usually a fan but he was canny tonight. Pretty physical

I'm not sure he's physical enough/good enough to be central however I think in patches he certainly done well enough and although he maybe wasn't involved as much as I would like looked intelligent on occasions when we had the ball breaking forward.

It’s really time we started being more positive and dominate games from the off, think the penny dropped with Ross tonight. I’d rather start ONien and bring on players like Cattermole for the last few minutes if we’re penned in.
The way Ross sets us up is working so why change it?

I'm not convinced he's a very good footballer yet but I'd hate playing against him, full of energy, always snapping away and doesn't look like he'd ever slow down. Was exactly the right sub last night and has plenty of time to improve. Can't help but love his attitude so hope he does well here.

hopefully he'll continue to improve there mate until such a time he can step up to replace someone suspended or peddled in the January window.

I thought he did well last night. A solid 7/10. He did change the pattern of the game by playing further forward than LC. I know we need no proof of his attitude but last night he was warming up constantly and at HT was on the pitch a good 5 mins before the rest of the subs. He is a fair to middling midfielder atm but world class in terms of attitude and commitment to the cause.

I surprised by how many people overlook how many shortcomings can be overcome and eradicated by having a positive mental attitude. It’s been proven time and time again in all walks of life. A less gifted person with energy, drive, and desire can be more successful than one more talented but less motivated purely because they want it more. And are prepared to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to achieve it.

I take great comfort in knowing I clearly understand the game better than some because I struggle to find fault with Honeyman most weeks.

He's crucial to the high press, he never lets up, he's neat and tidy in dangerous areas, he links well with Maguire from the left and Gooch from the right, he contributes a goal every other week from midfield, he's clearly popular amongst the players & coaching staff, he'll never end up in the press for the wrong reasons and he wants to be here.

Just need to take him off set pieces! He's terrible in that regard.

people like o nien because he runs around a lot and comes across like he cant believe his luck in signing for us..and thats fine..but we want quality players..and o nien has shown relatively little of that..even his goal on saturday was a poor first touch and a mediocre finish..but he has enough ability that his energy coming on late in games makes a huge difference
we were 1-0 up when he came on..so he couldnt have changed the game

Yes he could....his presence could have potentially prevented an equaliser, he was in their faces from the word go !

I thought he did well last night. He brings energy and enthusiasm which gives the team and the supporters a lift and must be exactly what the opposition don't want to see after 70 odd minutes. It seems to be coming right for him so good luck to the lad. Who scored the goal that was disallowed last night ? Was that O'Nien ?
