always stuck in my mind from being a youngin...

  3. You're confusing Spenny with Peterlee Marra.
  4. Well I never knew the Peterlee lot were the only ones able to answer a question on Poll tax and council tax.
  5. Pole tax was a thickie Brexit policy iirc

Poll tax was a little less popular with the masses

I used to have a t-shirt as a kid that said “say no to poll tax”.

  10. Poll tax was a great idea, ruined by poor marketing.

Poll tax was a regressive one on the individual, council tax isn't.

    It was shite.
  13. It makes sense though, everyone uses the bins, police, fire service so they should contribute.

Council tax is regressive. Almost all taxes are.

But not on the individual though.

On the individual it is. On the family unit it is not.

I pay more per head for council services than a family of three living in a house in a higher band.

The tax is on the property though, using the three individuals is a moot point and irrelevant as it's not a personal tax.

They do, based on the value of the property. Are you saying every individual should pay the same amount?

It’s still regressive though. A family with a combined income of £22,000 pays more proportionally than a family with a combined income of £44,000.

Other than actual income tax, all other taxes are regressive

  20. It makes sense, with a reduction for kids, OAPs, work shy etc.
