Be honest, he ain't very good is he?
Look at what he'd has to work with. The owner got rid of all the scouts. What is a head of recruitment supposed to do with no scouts?

Also, people ignore the good signings we've made - McLaughlin, Willis, O'Nien, Power, Dobson, Maguire as if they were signed in spite of Coton's presence

Be honest, he ain't very good is he?

But how do you judge that?

Give him no/few scouts, limited budget, an owner who seemed to ignore all the advice given (by his own admission) on Grigg and the fee and according to Lyle Taylor scrimped on a goal bonus etc, that also plays a large part of who he and we can bring in. Then add in factors like a manager in Ross who didn't seem to know what he was doing or how he wanted to play and the outcome is unlikely to be any good. If the remit last season was largely to get players in quickly who have previously been promoted from this division, as what said by Donald last season, then he kind of achieved it. I don't think you can argue that over the last two seasons we haven't also had a squad capable of promotion.

On the face of it the scouting looks lazy and largely based in the midlands and the north west where Coton has recently been based, but then we had no scouts and Coton was off work for months after suffering heat problems. Naturally those are the areas where he has most knowledge. In truth we've probably all slated him without understanding the restraints he's been working under.
