Old Sunderland Clubbing Photos

Much better as no social media , people actually had to go out to meet their mates
There would be Qs to get into most pubs in town and it would be busy 3-4 nights a week

Mind we were right in the thick of the acid/house/rave era the summer of love and all that , 1988-1990 , going all over the place and often wish there had been few photos to look back on. But overall I think socially life was far better back then pre mobiles

Sunderland during the 90s and 00s was a very good place for drinking, with an established route round the town before heading to whichever club was popular among your pals at the end
Then 24 hr opening came along, and the banning of tabs in bars (a good thing imho overall but detrimental to the pubs) and fkd it all up

Clubbing photos and story’s from 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. I’m a 90’s child, so obviously didn’t go clubbing in that time, but I love hearing stories from friends and family members who are older than me. They all say it’s sad to see a lot of the places no longer there, like Annabell’s etc. Share your stories and photos… nothing like a bit of nostalgia.

Coincided with the vast increase of cocaine users too. 92/93 it was rare, just a couple of rich kids using it, by 2000 it’s was rife.

My Granda told me a story about giving ol' Humperdink a lift in his van when when he played up here. Wish I'd remembered it like, definitely would have made for a more interesting post.
Apparently he stayed in the house my mate lives in now as he was a friend of the previous family or something. Another shite addition to your shite story.

Yes according to my parents
From memory, we would do a few of these each week:

Monday - Indie/Punk night Bourbon Street
Tuesday - Cheap night at Ku
Wednesday - 70s night at Annabels
Thursday - Student night Pzazz
Friday - Ku
Saturday - Manor Quay

Seem to remember going to The Palace on the northside sometimes as well.

Quite enjoyed a bit of clubbing in the 90s, but it’s a bit of a blur so I don’t know if all these were running at the same time.

Weird to think you often had to be members of these or get signed in by someone who was. Although that was a canny way to avoid the queue at Ku - ‘Scuse mate - need to get passed - that lass is singing us in’.

Used to be at Annabel's every Wednesday night for the 70's night.

Went to the Palace night club when it was £10 in all you can drink

New poster pretending to be a lass?
Not seen that before if true.
How do you know? Not a challenge just really interested to know how you think you know that. Do people on here know each other, I know some have mentioned some have multiple log in names. How do you get to find out. Sorry about thread derail just interested.

....and I'm finding the Englebert Humperdink story fascinating. I remember an old mate telling me he saw Lulu and the Luvvers at some club in Sunderland but can't remember which one....ahh loved a club with a turn. Probs had chicken in a basket too.

I don’t know but it’s a strange topic for a new user name.
Yes, people on here do know each other, if not before but because of here and there have been many good relationships built on here in the real world.
There’s lots of people on their x/y log in and the odd one posts as a lass even though male.
Time will tell

Prob same all across country , 80s- 00s town centres were much busier on a weekend , Qs to get in pubs etc , drinks much cheaper, more disposable income , more appetite for going out
If you went out regularly you got to know loads of people , still get and give nods of acknowledgement when out and about 😃

And the crabsticks getting sold as well in the clubs.
