Old Sunderland Clubbing Photos

Have some good memories from there it was lenny who had it when I used to get in.
By the way, my dog is called lucky

I used to live play snooker upstairs back in the day before they moved a table down into the bar

That video looks like the old lounge section on the first floor

Unfortunately before my time mate upstairs but was never no good at snooker. Can always remember the turns on in the lounge, 1 bloke used to hand these plastic red roses out before he sang to the women then collect them back when he finished was class.

   My time in there was mid 80s to early 90s time

My dad was a member until it closed.

Morecambe and wise played there pre fame and tv days

I can remember being told englebert humperdinck played up ford/Pennywell way before he was famous.
 The greatest name that

My uncle used to be a club singer back in the 60 and 70s

There’s a book to be written about the acts that performed around Sunderland back in the day

If someone could get the info now , I’m sure it would sell

Clubbing photos and story’s from 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. I’m a 90’s child, so obviously didn’t go clubbing in that time, but I love hearing stories from friends and family members who are older than me. They all say it’s sad to see a lot of the places no longer there, like Annabell’s etc. Share your stories and photos… nothing like a bit of nostalgia.
I think you're more likely to get stories than photos. For the periods you're asking about, smartphones either hadn't been invented or were expensive and few and far between.

To get photos would mean someone taking an actual camera out with them and nobody did that when they were out on the pull. The only photos taken were by the venues themselves for publicity purposes or by the local papers for specific articles.

Even then, the photos were not like the ones you see nowadays - mostly they were groups of friends trying to get as many as possible into frame by hook or by crook, everybody grinning and gurning, hair all over the place, drink evident in their expressions. Now, they are staged and choreographed to perfection, especially the lasses. One knee bent, standing sideways on, looking over one shoulder, pouting rather than smiling. They don't actually look like they are out enjoying themselves. When you do see photos from way back, people look more natural and look like they're having a whale of a time regardless of the location or venue - not like they're posing for a magaazine shoot or on the red carpet.

Spot on owld git  ;)

The thread seems to have taken a turn. Which is probably a good thing. Only so much you can talk about regarding a background of pulsating tunes.
He also played Newbottle club when he was just Jerry Dorsey but was paid off as he was that bad.
Really? 😂

From memory, we would do a few of these each week:

Monday - Indie/Punk night Bourbon Street
Tuesday - Cheap night at Ku
Wednesday - 70s night at Annabels
Thursday - Student night Pzazz
Friday - Ku
Saturday - Manor Quay

Seem to remember going to The Palace on the northside sometimes as well.

Quite enjoyed a bit of clubbing in the 90s, but it’s a bit of a blur so I don’t know if all these were running at the same time.

Weird to think you often had to be members of these or get signed in by someone who was. Although that was a canny way to avoid the queue at Ku - ‘Scuse mate - need to get passed - that lass is singing us in’.
