Baz Mac - you should read the last couple of pages... it's on there

I'm such a lazy tyke

Coincidentally, I do know the longest chant. I went to an Inverness Caledonian Thistle / Ross County derby game, and one of the home fans started shouting "Give me an I......"

Past my bedtime, methinks :|

Baz Mac... what I meant to say was that you'll find more info on that chant on previous pages.... it's origins etc.... and you'll find it lasted much longer than any Inverness Caledonian Thistle chant - long name though it is!

when man utd were relegated in the 70's they took a massive following to all away matches causing loads of trouble everywhere they went

when they visited roker they were given the clock stand paddock during the match the fulwell started a chant ....

... after about 80 minutes ...

where's your famous soccer hooligans

... then they started fighting among themselves. Absolute class. IIRC it was 2 Jan 75. I joined the Army 4 Jan 75. My next game (and last at RP) was Brentford in Div 3, the winner of which would go to the (100 years of the FA?) Wembley tournament.

The Sunlun sing
the magpies are away
and we will fight for evermore
because of New Years day

We are the geordies
The Sunlun boot boys

1. Yes.
2. Yes. We still sing it today, except now (and afaik then) the first line used the contracted form of Sunderland.
But we WERE proud of being Jordies then, just like no doubt any Central/Eastern European was proud of whatever his country was called before it got muxed ip. Like in the Champions League last week somebody was playing in a stadium in Azerbaijan named after the RUSSIAN linesman who gave a controversial goal in the 66 WCF.

There was also songs like:

Jordies here, Jordies there
Jordies every f***ing where na na na na na na na na na.

Some are big, some are small
But the Jordies fuck 'em all na na na na na na na na na.

We drink Brown, we drink Ex.
all we've come down for is SEX na na na na na na na na na.

Then that day of infamy in 1987 changed all that. To paraphrase Michael J Fox in BTTF "NOBODY calls me Jordy."

wasn't it more like that?

Aye, we did used to sing all the 'Geordie' chants such as:

Geordies Here, Geordies There,
Geordies every Fecking where
La La La La
La La La
La La

and

We're Geordies we're Mental
We're off our Feckin' heads

you wouldn't here us singing those anymore nowadays like...

The Mackem term didn't exist until the 80's as far as I know. First time I heard it was in 1985 when I took a job in Hull.

I first heard the term in spring of 1981 as I marched two troopers in my troop from the B Squadron accommodation down to the vehicle park.

I was also bamboozled cos they kept shouting "Ah shaduppa you face" and giggling as they marched. I thought they were being insubordinate until they sang the rest of Joe Dolce's song to me.

Started going to Roker in '84 and we were most definately Mackems...

Mackems Here, Mackems There,
Mackems every Fecking where
La La La La
La La La
La La

and

We're Mackems, we're Reds
And we're off our Feckin' heads

and the 'Boot Boys' song was...

We are the Sun'lun
The Sun'lun Boot Boys
And we are mental
And we are mad
We are the loyalest
Football supporters
The world has ever had
<repeat ad infinitum>

I always liked the Fulwell-Roker banter 'Sing in the Roker / Sing in the Fulwell' but my fave was 'Where'd ya park yer minibus'

Happy Daze :D :D :D :D

Dennis Smith went to town is his Lamborghini,
