O’Nien

He's a good defensive player with questionable passing decisions, I'd rather have someone better than both of them but I feel like Matete is the better option to start regarding defensive options.
Pressure games like this are no good for the lad, he’s a liability, he would be targeted for cards and he hasn’t the mentality or ability “yet” to cope.

Many a football fan by nature judges a player on what they do on the ball first which is understandable. However Onien was superb off the ball and his performance was crucial to ghe win. It does frustrate when he lets a ball run under his foot or fail to execute a simple pass but the good far outweighed that tonight.

Reminded me a lot of when Ji Sung Park didn't let Pirlo get a kick, SAF told him to not pass, shoot, head, anything, just focus on this one player. It was a programme about Pirlo a few months back, Pirlo said it was his hardest ever game. Barry Bannan is the league no1 player of the year and 09 did the perfect job on him. These Scotsmen called Alex know their tactics.

Doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Prone to a mistake. Ie the shocking first touch that led to his card. But aside from that he was very good tonight at breaking up play and stopping them getting on the ball.

His passing wasn’t bad either and he competed for everything in the air.

He won’t get the plaudits and had a few lapses but he was critical to us in midfield tonight
I thought he was a bit eratic tonight and I don't think he's very good technically. But he makes up for his failings by sheer effort and he's a credit to the club. He also plays anywhere you ask him to, which makes him a very useful squad player.

His passing tonight was awful, as was his touch.

That said he battled and was always in front of Gregory who was their outlet.

He's a ticking timebomb in midfield. His ball retention is horrific and at some point it'll cost us a goal. He's a grafter mind so maybe still needed in 2nd leg.

I thought he was very strong tonight, his movement off the ball and his breaking up of play was critical in allowing us to maintain momentum.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that when he was booked on around 65mins that they came back into it as he had to scale back his commitment and challenges.
