NZ v England [4th ODI]

Nice cameo by Curran, 18 off the last over on top of superb centuries by Bairstow and Root. Roy decent upfront too.

335 is very good but doable. Wickets are the key.

I need some kip :)

Not sure they're below par like. Would you have taken 335 before a ball was bowled? I know I would.
Well, yeah, if you scored 335 every game you'd win more often than not. But I meant in the context of watching Root and Bairstow bat easily on a flat track with no spin/seam/swing on a small ground, watching England's middle/lower order play bad shot after bad shot to get themselves out. We scored 59 runs in the last 10 overs and 14 of them came from our number 10 batsman in 4 deliveries, that told you batting was still comfortable. As good as Taylor's knock was - it was superb - Williamson and Latham scored freely too.

To be fair Tom Curran is not your average number 10. He could bat at least a place higher in most international sides.

As I said wickets were the key. If we had got 7 or 8 wickets we would have won due to them losing momentum like we did. We were about 10 runs short in the end.

Well this is disappointing. I said the win was on if Ali and Rashid matched sodhi they failed, so we lost.

Then again you have to applaud the two Durham lads in Ross Taylor (ex) and Latham (current) in their performances.

Taylors was a knock of a lifetime and if we are to lose, then to see that made it worthwhile

Roll on to the decider

I just can't get my head round Morgan keeping our best bowler (who had 5 available overs left) back until the game was lost and he could only bowl 8 of his allocation?
When he brought him back in they needed 32 from 30 balls with wickets in hand...game over. The fact it went down to the last few balls means we may have won it if Woakes had bowled 2 extra instead of that plum Rashid.
We lost the match between overs 35-43, they were up to needing nearly 10 runs an over and you could visibly see Taylor deciding, "I have to start playing my shots now".
So Morgan brings back Wood and Stokes and they bowled too many in the slot for him, with a side helping of drag downs and long hops by Rashid.
From nearly 10 an over to 6, with wasp going from a 10% NZ win to a 75% NZ win.
Ali was the best spinner, Woakes the best seamer, neither completed their overs.

A fair few individual errors didn't help of course.
Stokes awful review when he pitched the ball about 5 inches outside leg stump, we then had two LBW appeals turned down that would have been overturned.
Ali dropping an absolute dolly early in Latham's innings.
I think Bairstow should have caught Taylor on the boundary, but he palmed it down thinking he was running out when he wasn't.

On the other hand, Williamson should not have been given out.
Also Taylor deserved to be on the winning side.
