That all depends on how you want to view it.
If you want to decide whether a top player becomes not a top player depending on whether the club he's at is having issues and his attitude and form aren't right then that's up to you.
To me, he is a top player regardless.
The same goes for Maxi.

His ability makes him a top player.
His attitude needs to change but he is a top player, to me.
Ability alone does not make him or anyone else a top player. The fact you say his attitude needs to change even though he is 25 pretty much guarantees he will never be a top player.

Time for the press to ramp up the pressure on Saudi United… let’s rid the English game of these *****
Wont happen.

Press are rightly going at them because of their greed and general consensus that they're spoiling the pga and European tours and they have an obligation to dislike the Saudi regime.

But football. Nah they're possibly gonna pump money in so leave them alone.

Disgusting but true

When clubs were sniffing around him he had a £50 million price tag slapped on him.
Whether a club would've paid it is irrelevant now as it didn't happen but I basically show how easy it is for a player to be up there and how easy it can be to drop from it.

Only Newcastle thought he was worth £50m. No one paid it. Which makes it more relevant.

Things are only worth what people will pay.

Not at all.
If they are bad they're called out. If they're good they're lauded. If the bad become good they're lauded. If the good becomes bad, they're dug at. That's all football clubs, not just Newcastle.

It happens at all clubs I agree. But Newcastle fans over-rate their squad. Its always full of class players yet hasn't achieved anything other than mid table. If all these players were as good as your fans think you'd have been a bit higher up the league a bit more often. But I suppose that's Bruce's and Ashley's fault somehow
Ben Arfa was a top player. He would've enhanced any team but for his temperament. Tiote was another class act midfield enforcer that most clubs would've been happy to have as part of their squad. Matty Longstaff had his head turned and paid the price for it. He was an excellent prospect up until that time and rightly should've been lauded.

Would have... but.... your opening two lines sums up exactly my point. Class players.... but there's always a caveat. Always a something. I'd be a top artist, if only I could paint a bit better.

Fantastic player who would not be out of place in any football team in the world.

And only Newcastle spotted this and went for him. Hes a decent player. But he's one of many many decent players in the premiership. Fantastic is an overstatement.

Class act.
Apart from attitude. Greediness on the ball.

Both are very very good players. Willick is a fantastic player on his day. His problem as it stands is basically inconsistency. Joelinton has turned from a trier and a lone striker on the bad end of a bad setup to a new midfield dynamo and I am very happy with both.

Fantastic - on his day. And in consistent.
again... it's the caveats. Fantastic players are consistent.
At premier league league level having the odd good game doesn't make you fantastic. It makes you mediocre. Which is what he is

What does world-class actually mean?
Does it mean a Messi or does it mean playing for a country?
Can you clarify what you think world-class is and we can debate that?

personally I think World class means standing out in performances for your country on a regular basis. It means fans around the world are routinely discussing your skill and performances.

Not a single Newcastle player since Shearer falls in that category.

Are they good or too good for Newcastle? And are you saying Newcastle United is the small pond? Or are you saying the premier league is the small pond. Or are you saying outside the top 4 is the small pond?
I'm saying that your fans overhype players. So when you get someone that's slightly decent you make out they're world beaters. So these "better than Newcastle average" players become the big fish in a squad that's essentially not as good as you think.

Give me some examples.
I have done. Willock, Joelinton, Longstaff x2, Lascelles etc

You only have to take a look at what Eddie Howe's done in such a short time to see the results of that.
Been better than Bruce. I'll give you that. Next season will tell

I agree. Most of the squad is mediocre compared to the top 6 or so clubs but then again nobody's saying any different. I know what we need to be rid of.
It's mediocre compared to most of the league. And your "better than mediocre players" aren't as good as some of the "better than mediocre players" at other clubs.

All those are decent but there's plenty more and they deserve to be bigged up.
It's all about opinions though.
Agreed its all about opinions. Yours are wrong though ;)

Burn has shown he's more than a plodder and certainly can become a top-half stalwart.
Of course, there are many left-backs better than Targett in the world. I've never said there isn't.
Same as Burn. There are many center-halves better than Burn, obviously.

As for Villa not being able to wait to get shot. Targett came to Newcastle who was trailing Villa with them signing Digne and co and Targett helped Newcastle not only render relegation a distant past but also relegated Aston Villa to a few places below them, so Aston Villas's loss is Newcastle's gain.

All people are hypocrites. It's just dependent on what situation rears its head to a set of hypocritical views.
Dan Burn Can’t Run And Turns Like a combine Harvester, was directly to blame for a large portion of the goals you conceded once he came into the team .

This true?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah yeah ha ha, either said because they're gonna win f*ck all or for when they win f*ck all 😂😂
Just tried to Google it to see if reported, only one report of the gig from bong eye would you believe, never mentions it and said noel was "semi approving" some fans singing toon toon black and white army, I never heard that once.
Think Noel has always said a few derogatory things about the filth tbh.

Yeah he hates the Mags. His favourite pasttime is "seeing Geordies crying" in his own words

😂😂😂 That's got to be a piss take, dear me!
I was in your seats that day as well. Not with the author and his group. On my own in the main stand. Perhaps I should right an article on my day. Arrived quietly. Didn’t enjoy the match much. Chatted to the lad next to me. Did not celebrate. Left with the crowd. Got train home.
In fairness, from my experience of match days, Monty and Diver are / were actually decent lads and good craic.

I was in the clockstand that match. There was a few in that got sussed at start of match, they got kicked to f#ck ,then scrambled onto pitch.None left in by the time they scored
I was too. I have the same memory. Plus a few in the Roker small corner but that was it.

I was as well. 13 year old and in the family enclosure with my Dad.

I saw a scuffle with a handful of Mags in the Fulwell end half way up towards the back, right hand side. Remember one of them was a lanky bastard with long black hair. If I think back now he looked a bit like Professor Snape from Harry Potter. They all got sussed and took a few punches/kicks on the way down to the front where they got walked around to the Roker end off the police/stewards.
