How many other SMB members not born in the North East but still follow Sunderland?....

I moved up here in the early 90s from Yorkshire. Sat in the away end for many a game as initially couldnt stand the club. Gradually started to go to games with my mates at work, my own club went bankrupt and Sunderland got under my skin.

Love the bones of the place now.

Who was the club that went bankrupt ?

Was born in Boro, first football team was Boro. Moved to Boldon in 1972 and saw the light ever since, much to my Dads disgust

Born in Adelaide, Australia. Mam, Sister and Brother from Sunderland. Grandparents from Newcastle, Father is Chelsea through and through. Been to all three and still glad I chose Red and White.

Try and get to the SoL once a year, not cheap though

Born in Accrington, left at 17 to go to University, lived in a few places and landed in Sunderland at the age of 27 in 1990.

Used to laugh when my mates said we will have you supporting Sunderland one day. Been in the away end a few times at Roker Park and the SoL but the love for the Lads grew and have had a season ticket for 25 years and attended countless away games since.
You could have boycotted milk and supported Accrington Stanley

Born in York. Moved all over the country as a kid. Been down south for 20 years. Literally could have picked whoever I liked to support, but took my dad's advice (he's from Durham) and chose Sunderland.

The utter, utter bastard.

Still, days like Sat make up for it. Don't understand why people bother supporting big teams. They'll never get close to what that felt like.
Sunderland is a big club.

Have absolutely no connection to Sunderland or the North East from either side of the family.

Dad worked with a SAFC fan at work with the two of them being great friends.

I was up in Whitby on a family holiday August 1980. The two of them planned to take me to the match at Roker against Everton without me knowing.

Blue skies, Green grass, queue down past the New Derby pub before the match, that famous roar and the sheer size of the Roker End and I was hooked for life as I stood under the floodlight at the Roker End, Mainstand Wing:lol::lol:

Born in London.....Mum lived next door to Roker Park growing up. My Grandad lived 99 Fulwell Road. Took me to my first Sunderland match 1981 League Cup Round 16 at home against West Ham. 1-1 draw Brown scored first & Lampard Sr. equailized. Lost replay at Upton Park. In the old second division. Promoted that year.....All of my Mum family comes from Sunderland. I loved my relatives & loved Sunderland it just found its way under my skin. HA'WAY THE LADS.......

If Sunderland win tomorrow I am dedicating the win to my Grandad & Uncle Jack (Grangetown)& Uncle Frank my God rest there souls.....

Born in Bensham and thankfully me dad switched to Sunderland before I was born. Blames Stan Seymour for something to do with a sports shop in Newcastle in the 50s.

Born and bread in Yorkshire, a certain len spensley got me supporting the lads back in 1987, as well as some great days following the lads, I've met some great people, thanks to this board

Great season to start watching the lads. Winning plenty of matches. The G-Force banging goals in for fun. Any plenty of cracking away days.

Granted in was the lowest ebb in our history but a cracking season nonetheless.

It always makes me chuckle to see how many of us took up supporting the lads out of choice when they could have supported a team that had far greater success . Anyone is bound to think "were/ are they crazy?". Well if you are Sunderland born like me you had no choice - you followed the Lads and that was it. Then it struck me that most Sunderland born supporters have families going back over the years that have supported the club almost since it's inception in 1879. Mine has done it for at least 130 years which can't be uncommon - so if you are talking about who the really crazy people are go no further.

Born in Kent, raised in Sussex. All my Mum's side of the family are from Sunderland and the surrounding area, I'd be lying if I said they are all football mad, in fact it was only after going on a tour of the SOL that made me a Sunderland supporter. I absolutely loved the place and still do.
