Nostalgia post: How football has changed

No outfield players wearing gloves.
Goalies “marking” the middle of the 6 yard box with their studs.
Straw fights on the track around the pitch in the winter
Throwing things at the HT scoreboard if the Mags were winning 😊
The “magic” sponge in a bucket
Round collars and that’s it
Bovril that was the same temperature of lava
Hearing lasses scream when George Best had the ball
Mud

The milk cup final cost a fiver to stand

IIRC I got the bus from park lane for about £5 as well
.

They used to ask for volunteers to go over to shovel snow off the pitch as well

Looking at the team sheet without thinking "whose this new loan player" (not that they had team sheets. But you know what I mean)
Also correcting the team names in the programme with a pen crossing out the ones who weren't playing.

Peanuts tanner a bag, the boy's end at the front of the Roker end, climbing over the fence into the season ticket area of the Fulwell End. Diving under the turnstiles to get in for nowt. Running round to get into the mainstand paddock halfway through the second half when the gates opened. In the hope that you would be seen on Shoot the following afternoon. Edit - in black and white
Pitch more mud than grass. Players wearing baseball boots when the pitch was frozen. Tackles that would see you sent off today where players just got up and got on with it. A clip round the lugs from some old flat cap wearing gadgee with the telling off for swearing, "ladies present show some manners"
Proper footballers, Clough, Hurley, McNab, Sharkey, Monty, Herd, Mulhall. No subs, players standing on the sidelines hoping nobody would pass to them because they were injured and couldn't come off.
I think its fair to say that the game has changed quite a bit since I first started supporting the lads.

I occasionally mention to my two lads about the good old days of football and how much it has changed since I started going in the 60s. Yeah I know I'm a boring Dad...

A few examples.
No subs
No yellows or reds
Back passes to the goalie allowed
Managers lasting more than a few weeks.
Proper physical tackles allowed.
No/less play acting.
Standing on the terraces.
Crowd swells and being swept along by the crowd movement.
Tanner a bag peanuts.
No corporate boxes/ prawn sandwich brigade
No shirt names or squad numbers.
Hardly any overseas players

Etcetera.

What are things you remember that have changed and what are the things you miss??
It was a lot more equal

I struggle to find anything about modern football that i like BUT I go to Derby home games and as many away as i can pick up tickets. That does for me...i haven't watched MOTD for two seasons, i dont have SKY and have no interest in watching live games unless my team is involved, VAR is a fecking travesty and every new rule they bring in takes the game further away from me.

Having said that at 56 i love the day out, i appreciate it much more than i did as a kid...bus to Ripley, couple of beers in spoons or the three horseshoes, bus to derby, meet at Exeter Arms, either £2 bus to ground or walk. Back home 7pm, grumpy dad snoozes on sofa if weve lost or a few beers and takeaway. Sunday none of it matters either way.

19 games unbeaten and 5 wins on the bounce in what is the third division, it feels like the 70's or 80's all over again. I look at forest in the prem and all the bollocks that goes along with it and the money they've spent and it seems like a different world.
