North Shields have a decent history, they've won the Amatuer Cup ( Now Vase) before and the Northern League. They also used to have one of the biggest stadiums in the North East when they were at Appleby Park, with a 15,000 capacity. Their record crowd is over 12,000.

IIRC The windows in the background were the CIU club, where you could sit and drink your ordinary whilst watching the match.

Fuck me, you get everywhere.

Guys, this is Norwich's biggest troll, don't feed him.

He's actually from Great Yarmouth, which makes Sunderland look like Alderley Edge, and he spends every hour of his day on the internet - pity him.
So you're saying Sunderland is a complete shithole?
Nee idea where the f*ck that is but it sounded like you were trying to put Sun'lun down at the same time.
He is. Its a fancy area in Cheshire where a lot of the city and United players live.

Will spare you all the 'always had a soft spot for Sunderland' nonsense and I know it always looks a bit weird when fans of other teams sign up to a forum!

But really curious about Bali Mumba and what his situation was at Sunderland?

I vaguely remembering us signing him for a few hundred grand, and a few of our fans said he looked decent at right back in pre-season.

All of a sudden he's come on for the last 25 minutes yesterday against Swansea, who are a bloody good team at the minute, and basically torn them to shreds down the left side, turned them inside out and our plan B for that game when we dominated possession but were struggling to break Swansea down was basically just give it to Mumba!

Started the move from which we scored the only goal of the game.

I don't want to get too excited, and definitely not here to antagonise, but I can honestly say that this was the most impressive debut I've seen from a kid at Norwich in 35 years of following and I've seen Craig Bellamy, James Maddison, Max Aarons, Danny Mills, Todd Cantwell etc... all come into the side over the years.

Our scouting system has obviously identified him as a potential gem, but was he highly thought of at Sunderland? Looks like he's gone from playing for North Shields to looking like he simply has to start for us against Middlesbrough!

Delighted he’s doing well and genuinely wish him the very best, I actually have a soft spot for Norwich so hope he’s successful. Very frustrating as a Sunderland fan who watched him progress and the sold of a pittance of what he’s probably worth, but that’s not Norwich or Mumba’s problem, it’s our shithead owners! good luck for the season!👍👍

My take on Mumba is simply this: very, very talented young lad who was given his debut and captain's armband at 16 - largely a PR exercise orchestrated by John O'Shea who handed the band to the lad as he left the pitch and Mumba came on.
The team had just been relegated to L1, we were paying a fortune in wages for chancers who couldn't even be arsed to make themselves available to play: the fans needed a ray of hope and Mumba provided that.
Unsurprisingly a 16-17 year old lad wasn't looked on as 'the answer' in L1 - though I for one was disappointed he didn't get a few more games in. I still hoped we would see him develop and contribute to SAFC for many years.
I myself was a supporter of the new SAFC ownership regime of SD and the Madrox mob slightly longer than most, still wanting to believe they would do enough to turn the club's fortunes around.
The sale of young Josh Maja was a blow given that he was scoring for fun, but his contract was up and rumours were rife that he could disappear to Europe for free.
This wrong (but understandably difficult) decision was then made worse by paying over the odds for Will Grigg who promplty forgot how to score.
The failure to get an immediate return to the Championship was bloody hard to take (though to me not entirely surprising given the club were still trying to shred the wage bill to fit our lowly place).
For me what was sadder was that the club's coaching staff completely failed to develop the likes of Mumba. He was stagnating in an U23 team that was losing every f@cking game.
To sell this lad in the summer was a shocking decision - and it finally dawned on me that those who saw SD as an owner interested in quick profit with no long term plan had actually made the right judgement call.
I wish young Bali well and hope he doesn't judge SAFC badly just because of the incompetence that surrounded the club in his time with us.
He'd be welcome back here in my book.

Is he still playing? Don’t think we missed out on this one. He’s probably on loan in the conference again

The lad will have played as much 1st team football as both Dan Neil and Sam Greenwood combined. All 3 were in the same age group. Still time for him yet

The other side is that we got 300k and that was a master stroke.
I hated the owners with a passion, however Mumba isn’t that good despite his age.
Too short however not bad feet.
No way suited to the clog of league one and something had to happen.
MUMBA is a lovely lad. I wish him well be didn’t lose much sleep on him moving.

I wonder what our new analytical approach would have been to mumba...to small not quick enough i would guess.... talent sometimes trumps tha data ..good luck to the lad ans shame on donald !

What good is having talent if you aren’t using it and contributing, though?

That’s not aimed at Bali Mumba, like, I just mean in general.

Obviously .....pub teams are full of folk with talent that just dont have the application or physical characteristics to make it.mumba looked a little small to me but he was very young ..i would suggest he wont make it in the premiership but time will tell ..i know it will come as a shock to many on here but i have been very wrong before!

Perhaps to get out of the league we don't need six feet tall Neanderthals that can't play football for shit, but can kick people. I might be wrong, but Norwich are perhaps enlightened.
