Norwich Fan Here - Bali Mumba

1. All days are bad.
2. We're really f***ing angry, mainly because being a Sunderland fan involves being repeatedly kicked in the nads for all eternity.
3. We don't like it when people call us 'guys'
4. You confused North and South Shields. You'll be calling us Geordies next.
5. We never play young players and you did and he was good.
6. We always sell our young players for peanuts. You have repeatedly pointed this out.
7. You suggested we might benefit from a sell on fee. We never negotiate them.

And so on. Also a whiff of bisto.
Hi @AvidCanary
This last comment needs explaining, but the rest of it is spot on. Any gravy references on here refer to our barcode neighbours whose moronic fans wear their team shirts every day, so are often stained with droppings from their predominantly Greggs-based diet. They often come on here to wind up the natives, which accounts for some of the hostile comments. Perversely, it is also a tradition here to tell new members to "fuck off", so let me continue that, and assure you no harm is meant.
The bad timing this particular week is a reference to our being dumped out of the FA Cup by a team forty places below us in the League. We have been urging our manager for weeks/months that he should stop choosing his slow, negative, low-skilled and unfit 'senior players' and play some of the remaining youngsters from our once excellent Academy (e.g. current England captain and goalkeeper) as listed in the posts above. The ownership issue is ongoing, as Stuart Donald's plan was to buy us with our own 'parachute payments' and re-sell the club for a profit after getting promoted at the first attempt. It didn't work; he hasn't got the money to invest so everything has been done on the cheap (Parkinsaurus and a host of free transfers) while exciting prospects like Bali Mumba and others were sold off for the first offer.
So fuck off!

Made his debut at 16 (came on as captain) at the same time as Donald took over. Donald said he was someone we could build the team around for years to come.

Started the next season, and more than held his own. Was then put into the under 23s and barely featured for the 1st team other than the checkatrade or whatever it is.

Jurassic Parkinson has no intention of playing youngsters, and the chubby chancer Donald saw the £300k fee and his eyes lit up. Disgrace what they’ve done to our club, the damage will last for years. Mumba joined highly rated youngsters like Greenwood, Stephenson, Hugill, Pye and of course Maja in leaving us for pennies

It was going on long before that. John Egan anyone? Conor Hourihane anyone?

We had a great academy that produced Jordan Pickford and Jordan Henderson and many others. We just don't play any of them and sell them far too early.

PS - We dont have a great academy any more.

You'll get Denver Hume for peanuts if you make a bid, develop him and sell him on for 000,000's
Will spare you all the 'always had a soft spot for Sunderland' nonsense and I know it always looks a bit weird when fans of other teams sign up to a forum!

But really curious about Bali Mumba and what his situation was at Sunderland?

I vaguely remembering us signing him for a few hundred grand, and a few of our fans said he looked decent at right back in pre-season.

All of a sudden he's come on for the last 25 minutes yesterday against Swansea, who are a bloody good team at the minute, and basically torn them to shreds down the left side, turned them inside out and our plan B for that game when we dominated possession but were struggling to break Swansea down was basically just give it to Mumba!

Started the move from which we scored the only goal of the game.

I don't want to get too excited, and definitely not here to antagonise, but I can honestly say that this was the most impressive debut I've seen from a kid at Norwich in 35 years of following and I've seen Craig Bellamy, James Maddison, Max Aarons, Danny Mills, Todd Cantwell etc... all come into the side over the years.

Our scouting system has obviously identified him as a potential gem, but was he highly thought of at Sunderland? Looks like he's gone from playing for North Shields to looking like he simply has to start for us against Middlesbrough!
My mother in law is a Norwich bond holder (remember when Robert Chase shafted the club and the fans had to help bail you out) she had a massive stroke just before lock down and was lucky to survive. She's in a care home now and still listens to Norwich games on Radio Norfolk. She has a good weekend when Norwich win and Sunderland lose. The embittered old bag

He’s actually a centre midfielder but he’s versatile
He's played as much football at fullback as he has in midfield. I wouldn't say midfield was his 'position'.

His development was handled terribly here. A lad with obvious ability and talent should have been in and around the 1st team a lot more than he was. Instead he as played in a side with players no where near his level who couldn't win a match. Ross should have used him more and Parkinson virtually ignored him.

Absolutely bewildering people on here were happy with the sale in the summer. I genuinely wonder what goes on in some people's brains.

Not sure really, we have a left back and left sided player out injured, but Mumba is actually our back up right back. But if he can play left side and right side then wouldn't surprise me if he did manage more than 10?

No idea really, Farke really good at bringing through youngers... Jamal Lewis came out of nowhere really. Farke came into, liked the look of him and just put him in the team, don't think he'd ever really been identified as one of the better prospects and hadn't been involved with the first team. He never looked back, just stayed in the side and then moved to Newcastle for £15m-£20m.

Ben Godfrey was out on loan to League One as a defensive midfielder, Farke just said "you're a centre back", stuck him in the side, and he just stayed in the side as a centre back. Next thing we know Rio Ferdinand is identifying him as a top class centre back and Everton are paying £25m for him.

So I have no idea what this really means for Mumba, but Farke isn't scared to keep senior pros out of the team for a kid... pretty much what he did with Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons as well, just decided they were good enough and that was that!
Now you’ve made us feel even shitter about our board can we have Farke as way of an apology ?

Agreed, but at least with Egan, Hourihane etc we were in the premier league where it is more difficult to integrate youngsters into the side. However, these players should have been loaned out to gain experience in League 1 or the championship (Egan was iirc, but was unlucky with injuries). If you think Henderson went to Coventry, Pickford had spells at Darlington, Bradford and Preston. Hourihane (and many others) were left in our youth side until they either got pissed off and left, or were too old and deemed not the required standard.

With us being in this league, it was the chance to build a side with youth in mind. It’s where we should have been sending our youth players on loan when we were in the premier league. Instead what we have done is fill our squad with older, ageing players and still got rid of our best youth prospects.

It’s a disgrace what’s happened here, it really is

Craig Bellamy is a twat,

Absolutely brilliant

I’d say left wing is his position for the immediate future

Mumba's transfer to Norwich is what happens when you have people whose previous experience of overseeing football development is at the glorious surroundings of Whitehawk and Eastleigh. Paul Reid had a modest career in football and when he came to Sunderland, despite all the impressive facilities we have, it showed. Our youth teams had 1 win between them from 2018 up until the curtailment of last season.
This one isn’t to be pinned on paul Reid tbf. The Mumba issue is shared by Jack Ross, Richard Hill, Tony Coton but primarily Phil Parkinson and the ultimate root cause Stewart f***ing Donald. They don’t have the first clue how to build a club between the lot of them.

Fair enough, didn't mean any offence - and I was a bit wary of posting to be honest.

Also, I do remember a young Ryan Jarvis coming on for Norwich and scoring a wondergoal against Liverpool in the Premier League, which led to him becoming an eternal prospect before somebody at the club realised about four years later that we had a fully grown man stealing a living and he later found his level as a League Two squad player... that's why I don't want to get too excited.
That Macecran or whatever his name was at Chelsea was another . Josh?

Don't mind Norwich. Had yours and Wolves top in the 70s when I was a bairn. Plus first Wembley game and Gary Rowell and all that.

Academy up here raped. Owner and his cronies I wouldn't piss on if they were alight.

Good luck.
