Norwich away

Any good as an away day? Gonna apply today but never been here before and was just wondering if it's a decent away day. Normally would just apply but after going down to Hull yesterday i'm a bit hesitant.
Been twice but driven down both times for some reason so can't comment on the keg. 3-2 defeat in 90/91 season was cracking game! Long drive, including being stopped at a level crossing for a massive fucked off ship to sail by!

It's a 4 hour drive... Well 4 & a half if you stop for a bit! 2 hours to Newark then 2 hours across the A17 & A47.

Much better journey to continue south on the A1 past Peterborough, then east on the A14 then A11 to Norwich.

About 30 miles further but a bit quicker journey, on dual carriageway most of the way. Done both many times but the A14 route is much less tiring.

Yes I've tried that route too and took same time... Always do a17&47 now. Newark a nice half way stop!

At least you'll all realise what a crap long trip it is for me whenever we've lost! It's bad enough when we've won!!

On the 7.30am train out of Liverpool Street, gets into Norwich at 9.30. Then back to London afterwards.

Never been before so looking forward to it. Any pubs worth looking out for?

it takes about 2 & half to 3 hours from Northampton to Norwich depending on the A14 looking at getting the train from Peterborough £12 return if i buy now but waiting to see if i have a ticket

I am definitely taking the motor - why do you still use the 17&47 if 14&11 takes the same time and is less tiring? Just asking so that I can make my mind up in advance.

I don't find it more tiring and it's less miles. Some will think its a shit road but I don't mind it, probably keeps me more awake having to drive it than going with the flow on a dual carriageway!

There's still lots of work on the A11 Elvedon Bypass (near Thetford) which will slow you down if you go that way too.[DOUBLEPOST=1394566972][/DOUBLEPOST]

If you're getting here that early I take it you'll have a wander into the city centre... You've got cheap and cheerful Weatherspoons : The Glasshouse on Magdalen St or the Bell near Castle Meadow. Then you've got The Lawyer opposite The Glasshouse which is a bit more pricey. The Murderers (aka the Gardeners Arms) on Timber Hill, although that's where the Norwich 'lads' for want of a better word hang out! The Lamb Inn at Orford Place, The Slug and Lettuce and All Bar One amongst a couple more in and near Tombland. To be honest there are loads in and around the city and all ok. Nearer the ground you've got the Queen of Iceni which is a large Weatherspoons on the Riverside complex over the road from the train Station. The Complete Angler just over the bridge from the station, The Prince Of Wales further up the road, and the Coach & Horses the opposite way up Thorpe Rd (turn right out of train station up hill) 30 seconds away, which is probably where I'll be before the Queen of Iceni!
