Northern trains

We got the 17.30 back to Newcastle today.
Two carriages and it was actually dangerous both on the train with massive overcrowding and the initial crowd surge onto the two carriage train. Station staff and police were absolutely useless.

Usual same other way polis & staff don't have a clue

Anyone get to station before 6pm, police were at top of stairs stopping people going down?
In the end they did cos people were starting to kick off - the 1750 to Stockton wasn’t that bad in the end, but there was a lot left waiting for the 1800 that carries onto Boro

We couldn't get on the two carriage 11;41 from Central, it was mobbed, so opted for the Metro to Heworth, and replacement bus service, Meant a longer journey time obviously but a lot more civilised than Northern service, and I know it's been asked before but why don't Northern add more carriages..especially when Metro timetables are restricted..

Lack of rolling stock is the usual answer.

Managed to squeeze on at Heworth, guard wasn't going to open the doors at all but 2 people wanted to get off so he had no choice. About 20 people managed to get on, there was space in the aisles but crammed in the doorways, no idea why people can't just make their way into the carriage.

The problems with Northern Rail go back years. I remember sending them an e mail after we played Leicester in the premier league an old fella stood next to me passed out cos the carriage was so packed and the staff just kept on cramming people on.
I asked them when they were gonna do something about it, were they waiting for a fatality before they would act ?
They replied saying they simply had no carriages.
Anyone who has used local train services elsewhere will realise that the service we are offered up here is unacceptable.

Still can't believe this is an issue to be honest. I see some mentioning lack of stock, which I find hard to believe. Always go back to mid september last year I got a train from Horden to Saltburn and it had 4 carriages at 7.30am in the morning and it was empty, yet football matchdays they always seem to use 2 carriages. Can't fathom that out

Having only 2 carriages wouldn’t be a bad thing if it meant they put on a more regular 2 carriage service, but they don’t.

Yesterday whilst waiting for the 11:49 at Heworth a service towards Hexham came through that was empty but had 4 carriages.

I do hope this hasn't spoilt you Sunday afternoon 🥱

I got the half 5 back and I’ve never seen so many police/security on the platform before. Must have been expecting. Bother?

Free journey yesterday mate?

The rolling stock issue is the standard reply. If I was boarding from Seaton Carew onwards I would never buy a ticket. The conductor can never get round to check them.

They must be losing a fortune

One of our matchday group lives in and travels through from Horden and he gets the trains through to matches and every single week he turns up flustered and red hot having stood nose to nose with people or in a little cupboard (in yesterdays case) having been lucky to only just squeeze on. He says the same mind, yesterday he said he was walking the dog in the morning and a train went past with 4 carriages, fast forward to just after 1pm when he was stood at a busy Horden station and a 2 carriage one pulls up. He’s convinced someone’s taking the piss because he sees 4 carriage ones pass by frequently yet it’s always 2 at peak matchday times.

Have to agree it's blatantly piss taking from Northern Rail. Most definitely not a stock issue

Probably because services aren’t running at full capacity at 7.30 in the morning. That train probably split at some point to become a separate service.

I don’t understand why they didn’t just keep some of the Pacer trains if stock is genuinely an issue. I know there was something to do with disabled access, which was why they were no longer permitted under health & safety; but surely if they’re bolted on to a train that does comply that becomes less of an issue. I knar they’re shite but it would help on match days.
