Northern Echo, Borini deal..

Yeh but what about this apparent 14 mill that was available? We could own 2 good solid prem players for that or one very good player. We need a couple of proven players IMO to not have the same old relegation close season we normally have.
For me, we really need to spend the £14 on two player s and get another two loans in.

Borini clearly isn't coming

Was it ever a case of us signing him for £14m of our money? It's been suggested by many that the money they owe us for Henderson and Mignolet would have been offset to fund the deal.
But isn't that the same thing, what's the difference between spending money now and spending guaranteed money anyway. It works out exactly the same.

Most transfers are paid over installments anyway.

If he doesn't sign, I god hope that £14m is still available. Why can't we use said money then to bring in some quality instead of borini? We need 3 players currently, CB, LW, CM. I would accept one being a loan but I would like to see some quality brought in. Rodwell has been our one decent signing this summer with good outlay on him, we only expect just one when our squad is as weak as it is?

Don't know mate. I was just offering a possible explanation to his question. I would hope we do spend the money anyway.

Surprise surprise.

If he'd rather warm the bench at a bigger club all season, then more fool him.

He's not even warming their bench at the minute.....

If he thinks he's changing Rodgers mind about him by seemingly refusing to move when Liverpool have made it abundantly clear he isn't wanted then he'll end up as the next Winston Bogarde.

Maybe that's it then. Oh well no more money and a few loans to look forward to. They will get a shit load of game time, do well, just about keep us up then go back to their own club and either be sold (not to us) or be straight back in their own first team while we frantically scramble to replace them with more shite and loans and the whole fuckin boring predictable merry go round starts again.

That's the spirit

That (imo) will limit the quality of loans we get then.......no more like Borini, Welbeck, Ki, Rose and Evans........but probably more like Celustka and Dossena.

Maybe but then we just look outside the PL because you wouldn't find another league where big teams load up young players and loan with no intention of selling like the PL IMO, and Dossena wasn't a loan ;)

But that failed spectacularly when we tried it last summer and goes against the stated aims of the Sporting Director to bring in players with PL experience. If it hadn't been for the players we brought to the the club last summer WITH Premier league experience we would undoubtedly have been relegated.

The best solution imo is to actually buy some quality players AND supplement them with the best you can get on loan.....regardless of whether we have an option to buy.

No argument from me that buying quality first is ideal, but you can get players with pl experience from foreign clubs, it's not restricted to players in the pl right now

i very much doubt "£14m" existed in a nice little whellbarrow waiting to be spent like some think. I think that 'money' is very much unique to Borini in that:
- it'll not be £14 m spent
- it'll be say, £10m plus addons
- the '£10m' will be over say 5 years
- even that '£10m' will probs be offset against what they owe us over the next few years for Henderson and Mingolet

Just because there was this prospective Borini deal "Worth up to £14m" doesnt mean we neccesarily have £14m now available to spend when we dont sign him!!

I'm really disappointed that he thinks the wise career choice is to sit in the stands at Anfield. Because that's where he will be sitting.
I thought he was a player that wanted to play, obviously not, unless of course he us aware of interest from another club willing to pay £14 million

We need to calm down, Poyet is making statements and there are a multitude of meanings being applied to them. I'm frustrated that we've spent this long chasing the lad but I'd be surprised if we didn't have contingency IF the lad and his entourage decide the move isn't right for him/them.
