Non League Football

Listened to the Heed commentary this afternoon and they won 2-1. Scored 2 early goals inside 15 mins and then conceded very late, around 80 mins and hung on at the end. 7 Points from 9 so a decent start.

Seriously considering a trip to see them at Southport next weekend as our game v Sheff Wed is off. Like to do a Heed away game every now and again and this is an ex football league ground I have not been to (which is another one of my lists). Might go camping if there is a site nearby and go down Friday night.

My work colleague plays for the oppo. Newton Aycliffe. He plays in the 10 role roving behind the main striker and at the head of a diamond.

Whats the ground like. Probably the nearest one I have not been to.

Speaking to my mate he’s either playing wide or in the 10. I imagine the latter is because he’s getting a bit older

it has a 4g pitch. A nice ground one of the best in this league.. A big clubhouse with plenty of space and a stand that must seat 500 on the opposite side of the main stand.. modern and noisy lol

Sunderland West End have (already) issued a rallying cry for more spectators now they've returned to Ford Quarry Complex after a year of playing at Nissan. One of the few NL grounds I haven't been to so I'll likely pop along Wednesday for their game v Boldon.
I was at Esh Winning last night. 2 nil defeat against Redcar Town. Poor showing from Esh who improved a bit after going behind. Not looking good for Esh this season unfortunately

No more than 2 going down from NL2 and I think Durham and Washy already have those places sown up.

It’s soulless . I think they will struggle to attract the casual fan

Just got back from Scarborough after watching South Shields completely dominate a team that will be there or there abouts at the end. Could have been 4-0 at HT but for some very good saves by the Scarborough keeper... As it was they wern t needed as Shields controlled the game from start to finish... Mind you it should have been 3 but for an absolute howler by Osei who missed one of the easiest chances he will ever be presented with lol... My 4 yr old grandson would have scored ... A very good set up at Scarborough and a great crowd in attendance 1824 swelled by at least 500 from Shields

I was at that game, yeah the summary is fair. That chance missed by Osei is one if the worst misses I have ever seen in football, on a par with Rooney Rosenthaal all those years ago.

A Bank Holiday double for me - Crawley Down Gatwick 3-1 AFC Uckfield Town in the Southern Combination (Step 5), followed by Dartford 3-1 Eastbourne Borough in National League South
That's proper football porn. National League South to me is like the Highland league. Too far away and not high enough up the pyramid to justify the trip!!

I am doing East of Scotland league over the Highland League as even though its lower down the pyramid, it's a hell of a lot easier to get to.

For me, on the south side of Birmingham, it's pretty much the opposite. Only the very southernmost clubs in Scotland are within range of a day trip, whereas in Southern England, only Cornwall and some of.the more rural Devon clubs would make me think twice

There’ll be a link on the Shields Twitter page later on.

OK cheers, I'm not a Shields fan but follow their progress and hope they do well. Looked like a championship winning team yesterday though, thought Scarborough were OK and good to see them on the way back (I can rememberthe original Scarboroughteam playing my home town team Slough Town in the FA trophy in the 1970's). Think they will probably get into the play offs.
