Non League Football

Not from shields, no connectons to shields, so not an option for me.
Fair few safc supporters who can take solace from shields success tho I suppose?

Shields is surely Sunderlands version of FC United of Manchester, people are going to watch them as they will not put more money in shorts hands and still want to watch a match and have a dodge out with their pals, totally get it.

There's a large element of that but, as much as anything. I think people just enjoy watching winning football. The next couple of leagues will be a lot tougher than this one so it'll be intriguing to see what happens if they stall a bit and finish midtable.

It isn't though. FC United was specifically set up by Man Utd fans in response to the Glazers taking over. Shields are a separate town and team that have been around over 100 years. It's like turning your back on Sunderland and supporting Hartlepool or York.
I get the day out with your mates bit but I simply couldn't give my support to another club, unless mine was finished.

Not sure if the next division will be massively harder than this one for either Shields or Scarborough given the size of their crowds and financial backing although 1 automatic promotion spot is tough for sure. Im sure it will take some time to build that promotion pushing side but both are capable of it.

Sunderland fans have simply tagged onto an existing local side, I assume many are Sunderland fans from Shields so are watching their home town club.......Dont blame anybody going elsewhere for a footy fix at the minute tbh, maybe they will rediscover their love of the game when they are not watching the shower of shit that Short has overseen.

It'll need investment for both. Big crowds are easy to get if you win most games but they tend to drop if you don't. In both cases, they need to invest in the team to go up again.

FOJ = fuck off Jarvis.

Shields need a point for promotion. 8 for the title. At Home on Tuesday.

Hyde - third top got under 500 today. Bamber Bridge, fourth top got under 400. That's a big difference to Shields & Scarboro gates.

I know. Scarborough obviously had a ready made fanbase and Shields seem to have drawn from both big clubs in the north east but primarily us. Like I said, my worry for Shields would be what happens if they have a transitional season and aren't winning most weeks.

Missed the point completely. Shields were 6th in the then championship in 1921. A team with a heritage of ups and downs. F C United formed out of a dislike of their owners. Wonder how many football teams Man U would start if Short was their owner
