Non League Football

Gateshead barred from taking part in the National League play-offs due to issues over their ground lease.

What an absolute sickener for all those with a genuine interest in the club.

Aye, EFL saying no. Presumably Aldershot go into the playoffs.

Awful for Gateshead as they've been very good this season and it renders things a tad pointless if they can't go up.

1224 at Hebburn Town tonight. Disappointing 1 nil defeat to Osset Town and its all to play for on Saturday.
And that after 10 wins in a row. Their goalkeeper saved a penalty, and although Hebburn created very few chances with all their possession, his handling was excellent and he was probably the difference between the sides.
Hebburn played their fifth game in 11 days last night. Pitches have been heavy also. Would that qualify as an excuse ... probably but definitely not as these results sometimes just happen at thd end of the season.

The Northern League have released playoff dates for the 2nd time and they start before the regular season finishes

Can't help it, The FA have insisted all promotion-winning teams need to be decided by a certain date. It was originally meant to be 27th April but there were too many games left to play to meet that deadline so The FA reluctantly agreed to an extension.

Just looking at the northern league tables and was surprised only one team plus play off winners are promoted from division 2. Considering some of the very poor points totals at the bottom of division 1 surely 3 or 4 promotion spots would be more sensible.

I believe it's dictated by The FA these days. They want a certain number of clubs at the level NL1 currently occupies so they're are put into a pot and are assigned to the most applicable geographical region and you do end up with more clubs in one league than another. It's usually not too controversial in the Northern League as it seems to have a well-defined footprint but we did end up with Pickering for a couple of seasons but they returned to the NCEFL last summer. I think once the number of clubs is met then there will be a return to 2-up, 2-down between NL1 and NL2.

Penrith played in the NW Counties some time ago but that, I think, was before the Pyramid system

Bedlington Terriers v Chester Town reversed fixture at Chester le Street for us tonight. First visit this century to the ground which now has a nice clubhouse. Bedlington started well and had a couple of good chances in the first 15 minutes. Chester dropped a bit deeper and got into the game taking the lead with a nice volley after a good set up. A thumping header off a corner made it 0-2 not long before halftime. The terriers tried to get back into the game with pressure for most of the second half before they were hit on the break with a few minutes to go for a final score of Bedlington 0 Chester le Street 3. Only 77 in attendance to see long serving Town captain Kevin Dixon’s last game before retiring at the end of the season.
