If they are that great, how come they appeared to have no opposition to buy them?
Ben Arfa had a reputation as a troublemaker but I've no idea why Cabaye went there.

They must have been throwing some big money in his direction for him to go to Newcassel.

West Ham don't seem to learn.

In my opinion the best way to get out of the Championship these days is a young hungry and skilled team, which they have with the likes of Noble, Collison etc...

Why would you want to bring in Nolan who although undoubtedly good at that level is going to be on silly money to but and wage.

I doubt they need him to get out of that division

Maybe 20 goals from midfeild might also be a good reason. I wish we had him here.

But Ashley and co said that they would not pay massive money.

Both have been capped by France; Ben Arfa has played in the Champions League and Cabaye would've played in the Champions League had he not moved. Granted I know less about Cabaye than I do about Ben Arfa, but the latter is absolute class and given his record with Lille Cabaye seems like an excellent buy.

So nothing whatsoever to say they'll be any good in the PL? Cheers.

I've seen the odd game of Ben Arfa in the French League but watched him mainly in the Champions League and he always looked a class act.

Like I say I've seen little of Cabaye but he has an excellent record and was highly rated in France.

french league isnt up to much. he looked quite average for the mags then fucked his leg. theres no telling what he will be like

Re: Kevin Nolan

Yep, that is what I hear aswell.

What I hear from my mates who are mag season ticket holders is that he does very little throughout most matches but can pop up with a goal any minute. That to me would suggest he will be big loss, because not many other midfielders will get you 12 goals in one season.

yet he's 20 times better than nolan. oh dear.

Decent player, but can sometimes look like he's treading water in the middle of the park! If we're winning and contolling a game he's always likely to pop up with a goal, but when we're up against it it's a different story. Was awful in our relegation season, looked like his legs had gone and many newcastle fans presumed he was well into his 30's when he was only 26/27. However, he improved hugely in the promotion season and I think the team spirit (him at the forefront) and momentum got him through last season

He will be a loss, but not one that we can't deal with. imo like

Indeed. Lyon regularly get into the Champions League quarter finals and Marseille got themselves into the last 16 this season as well.

Didn't the Toon get the Cacapa (sp) from there?

Yes, not sure what that has to do with this particular debate though.

We got Gyan from Rennes and he's been a revelation in this league.

You made the point that Lyon were a good team.
