''Fifa President Sepp Blatter says he is "satisfied" with an investigation into corruption which resulted in suspensions for six top officials.

But he admitted that not all members of the organisation's Executive Committee were happy with the outcome.

"These decisions may not have found the total support of all the members of the Executive Committee," Blatter said.

"But the Executive Committee ... as a government of Fifa, of course follows and abides by the decisions."

Nigerian Amos Adamu and Tahiti's Reynald Temarii were banned for three years and one year respectively after claims in a British newspaper that they asked for money in return for voting on World Cup hosting rights.

The pair were both members of the Executive Committee and have now lost their right to vote on which countries should host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Four former executive members - Slim Aloulou of Tunisia, Mali's Amadu Diakite, Ahongalu Fusimalohi of Tonga and Botswana's Ismael Bhamjee - were also sanctioned.

Blatter said all six people involved had the right of appeal within Fifa, then to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and ultimately to the Swiss courts.

He said the bans imposed by the ethics committee gave Fifa a chance to "clean up" but that the investigation methods were not fair.

"I'm not pleased about that because this is not very fair but now we have a result, it gives us an opportunity to clean a little bit whatever has to be cleaned.

"But I cannot say that it is very fair when you open traps to entrap people. But if the objective is to have a clean sheet in football then I can understand it."

Thats that then...'satisfied'. All the effort put in by the bid organisers, Quinn and the like from our club and more than 4 years work will be overshadowed by one newspaper sting. Like it or not, football is corrupt in many parts of the world, reflecting the upper eschelons of commerce/sport in the countries that play it. And how many will now vote for England? What did News International expect to achieve here?

We still have the BBCs panorama programme on FIFA corruption to come yet - one week before the vote.

Absolute wankers.

The Times offered them money, they took the bait and were found out. It's quite sad and if we don't get the world cup then I hope there's a boycoutt of said new source. Sorry, had to be done.

:-(

Couldn't care less if we don't get it. Fifa need exposing if officials are corrupt.

There is corruption all around the world in all countries and in many sports governing bodies. Do you sit at home caring about all this corruption with the same desire for exposure for the corrupt?

Also, do you think the Times would have used entrapment if England hadn't been in the running? The answer is no, they only want to sell newspapers, its not about just exposing corruption.

The hypocrisy is astounding. No more so than the BBC who could have shown the programme anytime between two years before now or two years after but they choose to show it one week before the vote...why is that?

And if they are interested in the simply exposing corruption why just keep focusing no interests close to the publics heart? Why didn't they do this 4 years ago? Because they have an agenda of their own, look at us, moral high ground, FUCK OFF.

No point replying to him. He dosen't care.

Am I the only one that doesn't give a toss if we get it or not?

I would like my bairns to go to a World Cup game at the SOL, in fact, I would like all of Sunderland to have possibly their only ever opportunity to see a World Cup game at the SOL. Its a great occasion you know, my grandad would have loved to see a World Cup game, he can't now, don't underestimate what the WC means to people.

I'd like to see it here if only for the huge amount of work Quinny and SAFC have put into the bid. You're always going to get a few selfish tits and media up to their normal tricks though.

sorry pal you've lost me there

history

the money for the yards /pits came from the city

today

the money from the city pays for britain , esp the north east

so banginging on about cockerneys etc is plain daft
