Nirvana

Loved them back in the day. Grunge pissed all over Britpop from a great height.
Still, out of all the grunge bands, Nirvana wouldn't be top of my list nowadays.

Alice In Chains*, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam were all better IMO.

(* Yeah, I know they weren't actually from Seattle but they were still part of the scene)

Is that your opinion or fact?

Must say I preferred the likes of Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Manics, etc myself

I have eaten better albums than Nevermind.

Aye.

I'll settle it for you.

Britpop and Grunge were both shite.

A lot of both was shite, but much was also excellent. Pretty much like any genre.

Loved Nirvana me.

RIP Kurt, just goes to show that depression shows as much respect for fame and fortune as it does for everything else.

Well, what's your yardstick? Putting aside the obvious (to me) difference in actual musical ability of the respective artists, check out the sales...

Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory
Worldwide sales: 10m copies

Nirvana - Nevermind
Worldwide sales: 26m copies

Soundgarden - Superunknown
Worldwide sales: 21m copies

Not to mention Pearl Jam's "Vs" album holding the title of "quickest-selling album of all time" from 1993 until 1998, having sold 950,000 copies in its first week of release (which was more than every other album combined that week).

Celine Dion, Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey and Shania Twain are all near the top of the best selling albums of all time like.

In Utero is the masterpiece like, for me.

Agreed. Scentless Apprentice being my personal favourate.

With The Lights Out has some real gems on there too, Opinion, Rape Me (acoustic), About A Girl (original lyrics), SLTS (original lyrics), Verse Chorus Verse, Sappy and Old Age to name a few. Beans is class n'all

Much more than just a band to their fans.

On a similar subject, the film Last Days is worth a watch. Based on the last days of Kurt's life after breaking out of rehab. Even though you kinda know how it's going to end, it's a quality film. Brilliant soundtrack too.

Apart from Heart Shaped Box I think they were shit.

Grunge is possibly my least favourite music scene of all time. Shit music played by timid Americans with no sense of fashion.

 You don't like grunge for it's timidity, and your favourite Nirvana song is one of their most timid songs?

And "no sense of fashion"? What exactly is that supposed to mean? The grunge scene was never about looking fashionable, in fact quite the opposite, it was the epitome of anti-fashion!

Nirvana/Grunge completed what Punk started and killed off rock with it's dumb it down/turn it up style. The devolution has carried on to today with all the the whiny shouty bands with no melody (Foo Fighters > Creed > Nickelback etc).

I wouldnt say it killed off rock at all, Grunge did have a huge impact on rock and metal and definatley put it back underground but both genres were still there and now are back and as popular as ever Just have to look at the festivals this year and the last few years its loads of bands that lost fans during the 90's are back.

Metal at the minute is going all retro with a thrash revival and a traditional metal revival as well (mini-x2 will love it) I think partly on the back of guitar hero and partly as a response to Nu Metal, metalcore screamcore etc etc.

Foo Fighters I've never got into seems to manage one or two decent songs an album and thats about it.

Heart Shaped Box is hardly Napalm Death. I am talking about the personalities of the bands, not their music.

Yes, they werent fashionable. They looked f***ing shit in their shorts ans shit checky shirts. They were so anti fashion that the whole scene adopted it.

The bands can hardly be blamed for the public wanting in on the "style" action, can they?

What would you have preferred they wore, if not the cheap unfashionable clothes they chose to wear?

I am not interested in changing what they wear. I choose not to get into bands who both look and sound shit, and grunge was that scene.

...and instead you got into...?

I have made plenty of posts about what music I like/divvint like.

The music I genuinely dont like is grunge, jazz and metal (with the exception of a few thrash bands as my guitar teacher taught me some stuff when I was a youngun)

Haway man, I can't be expected to remember the musical preferences of everyone on this board.
