If you do not have games for a switch, is it a media device you can watch youtube on and download free games/demos? Is there a yearly fee to Nintendo like there is with xbox live etc? :)

Yearly fee which you will probably have to pay for to enable you to download from the store.

The yearly fee is only for playing multiplayer online games, not buying them.
Its not a media device though.
Loads of cheap games but all the best are Nintendo full price ones.

Thanks guys, it was going to be a present for a non family member but the price would escalate hugely by the time I got games. You's have answered my question though, thanks again :)

You can download YouTube but it is the only media app in then UK. Outside of the UK it also has Hulu. You can't watch your won videos etc.

You can download demos for free. You don't need an online membership to do so.

For Nintendo online there is a yearly fee, which is about £20. It's very worth it as it gives access to a huge range of classic nintendo games from the NES/SNES era. See here: Nintendo Switch Online – Nintendo Switch™ Official site – Online gaming, multiplayer, voice chat
