The missus got some decent start trail shots somewhere near beamish that didn't have much LP. We want to go up to keilder to do some but she's lost her bloody remote for the camera!!

What does she need to a remote for? To avoid the shake on the camera when pushing the shutter? If so I just used a 2 second timer.

bulb mode i imagine, wont capture much star trail movement in a 30 second shot, unless your stacking the pictures.
 
Ah fair enough. Most of the ones I've seen are just 30 second ISO 400 exposures or similar. I'd imagine that would be more than enough for most things. Not everything, of course.
