Nick Barnes reckon we have no scouts

Cotton will of prob been scouting opposition teams it’s no co incidence so many of our signings come from Scotland jack Ross old stomping ground and cottons ex team who he will of known already absolutely shocking really

I don’t think our recruitment has been too bad, hasn’t been amazing either mind. However there are 3 transfers that worry me about how they were dealt with by us:

Kaz Sterling -highly rated, not Played
George Honeyman - club captain, sold for pennies
Reece James - literally sold a day after singing a new contract

The last two windows have been a complete disaster. Recruitment in January arguably cost us promotion and if we fail to go up this year, summer recruitment will be the single biggest factor.

It isn't so much that we've signed bad players, but it was blatantly obvious what we were lacking (pace and power in midfield, a commanding centre half in January) but we've just bought more of what we already had and haven't addressed the weaknesses. On top of that, we weakened the squad letting Cattermole, Oviedo and James go but the replacement left back wasn't fit until mid September.

Think it was for the best that Ross went but he's been failed by Donald and the recruitment team. Also, didn't Coton have a heart attack in January? So we have no scouts and our head of recruitment was off sick during the transfer window

To be fair to Barnes, and I haven’t read any of this thread, this lines up with what I was told from someone who works for the club, in a role where he would know.

Or just someone who realises scouting and finding good footballers is pretty important to a football club. It's hardly rocket science
Of course it’s not. Do you think Stewie n Charlie think it is? Other aspects of the football industry aren’t rocket science either.
For starters SAFC have no money.
Money spent scouting atm is money down the drain as there’s no money to pay transfer fees, agents fees, signing on fees. SAFC while in this division have to rely on its size n pull to attract bosmans whose other offers are from clubs in this division or similar who are way smaller with less prospects and also have no money. Hopefully this will change.

I’ll go to the opposite end of the scale to help illustrate the point: If we had lots of money we’d simply get the two Jordan’s back, follow up our previous interest in Virgil van Dyke, hoy Messi n Kane up front and with a bit of luck that’d be enough to get us promoted. But because we’ve no money we can’t.

The sort of players we’d hope to unearth by investing in a giant spiders web type all encompassing scouting system are already being watched by clubs of our size or bigger. Who have the money that we don’t to spend on transfer fees, signing on fees, agents fees etc.

Barrel bottoms arent being scraped because we’ve billions in the bank. That’s hardly rocket science either now is it?

Scouts cost money.
We’ve little money to spend on transfers or wages.
This means we’re in the market for bosmans.
No point in scouting players who aren’t Bosmans.
Every club knows who’s contracts are up next summer.
Agents are ringing safc up about their bosmans clients.
We pick from who’s available.
We don’t truly know who’s available until June 30th.
Bosmania ensues.

No need for scouts atm.
Scouting bairn s is a different matter altogether though. With two ex safc aol graduates in the England team regularly we should be making hay amongst the Up n coming NE Nairn’s. As fuckin if.
Unfortunately as you say we pick who's available rather than good players we have identified. The reality is we are picking up players from the same pool as other league one teams. We have the pick of all them, we can pay them more money, but other clubs choose better players. Something is going seriously wrong.

How are other clubs on lesser income doing it? Barnsley for instance, most clubs unearth a gem, we seem canny in unearthing shite

So why has Donald said we are now putting 500k into scouting. We'd have been better spreading out the cash rather than famine then feast. Having no scouts is a rank amateur way of running the club, and I'm someone who has defended him more than most.

There speaks someone with decades of successfully running top class football clubs. Or not.
Its fairly obvious though and our recruitment since the new owners came in is evidence enough if why you need a good recruitment strategy in place

If we are only using freelance scouts and cotons contacts to find players it just isnt good enough

Of course it’s not good enough. It should be but it’s proving not to be. As illustrated on Netflix the scouts we’ve had recently are idiots. Ibrahimovic ffs! If that’s the intelligence and scope of scout we could afford in the PL and Championship then it’s no wonder Stewie n Don thought fuck that in this division we’ll just try and pick up summit in the sales.

Maybe we didn’t have £500k available then? Maybe Stewie n Charlie thought “the last bunch of scouts were seriously suggesting Ibrahimovic........we could suggest that ffs! Why not try TC for a spell after all he can’t be any stupider.”

Exactly! And even if we don’t have money for relatively big transfers for this league (not sure if that is the case or not), it’s hardly financially prudent to assemble a squad of mismatched players on decent wages, when a little money on some proper scouting might have improved things.

Their owners are richer than ours. Their business model is buy low sell high. They’ve set up their club specifically to operate like that. SAFC over the last 40+ months has been set up just to try staying in business. Hopefully things will change soon.
I’m not defending S&C at all here I’m just astonished that people are astonished at what’s going on atm. SAFC haven’t been signing bosmans and loaning from Celtic n boro reserves because they don’t think Messi n Ronaldo aren’t good enough.
We are skint. Not as skint as we were but still skint.

Agreed.
Though some have opted for smaller clubs for none money reasons. Taylor because Charltons a couple of mile from where he was brought up etc.
