I've never once said he won't be reliable or fit enough. It's you using those words. So Huggins, if proven fit (which he’d have to be to get a loan move), is good enough for alternative clubs to take a gamble with, but not for Sunderland, because … errr … he might not be reliable enough ?
In my view, bearing in mind that we saw very little of him last season because of the aforementioned injury, if Huggins is fit enough for competitive football, then SAFC should be the ones to take the risk of a recurrence.
There is an implicit arrogance in concluding that a player is fit enough/good enough for a ‘lesser club’ to take the risk, but not for Sunderland to do so.
It is one thing to offer a young player coming through the ranks (for example, Ellis Taylor) the opportunity to gain experience, it is quite another to try and palm off a player who needs to re-establish confidence in his fitness.
I hope he does got on a play 40 games for us this season. My point is that if there are others higher in the pecking order (Gooch, Winchester, Hume) and hes going to struggle for game time then the best thing for his career is to go out on loan and get those games under his belt.
The lads the best part of 22 and hasn't played more than 10 senior games. Surely you can understand my point
