Huggins is class, just hope he can avoid injury’s
He will be starting every game once fit enough.

Considering he's never played a full season of league football yet the sensible thing would be to avoid burning him out, like we did with Cirkin,Doyle and Neil.

It may be if he has a good pre -season we dont buy a right back and rotate him with Onien (who I think would be better than Gooch at this level).

Who knows

I like Gooch but he is not a defender. Whereas Higgins is firstly a defender.

Really think hes going to be a goodun like.

Yes that was a bad injury but just hope he gets totally over it.
I’m not even sure it is a bad injury as such, just one that takes a long time to heal and requires careful rehab. I know that might sound contradictory but in terms of prognosis there are worse injuries.

I think the lad could do with playing regular and getting some senior football under his belt.

He's barely played 10 senior games and he's 22 I believe

Possibly loan move I'd say
If Huggins represents such a risk to SAFC, because he can’t be relied upon to be available and fit because of an injury, why would another club want to take the risk of factoring him into their plans for the season ?

The lad needs to play football next season. If that's with us and he played 40+ games, ideal

If he isn't going to play that many games for us then the best thing for him and us would be to go out on loan and get that experience.

The lad needs to play games for the good on his career.

I've mentioned nothing about a risk / injury

I accept that you are not one of the ‘injury prone’ contingent. Nor am I. However, what we can accept as a fact is that Huggins has, most recently, had a quite serious, season-ending back injury.

So my question remains sound.

Why would another club want to factor Huggins into their plans for the forthcoming season, when SAFC isn’t prepared to do so ?

I guess clubs have to weight up that option and obviously there are medicals which take place etc... to establish the fitness / future fitness of the player

The lad is a talented player and I have no doubt there would be plenty suitors for him, whether that's in L1 or even L2.

He definitely needs to play though that can't be denied

So Huggins, if proven fit (which he’d have to be to get a loan move), is good enough for alternative clubs to take a gamble with, but not for Sunderland, because … errr … he might not be reliable enough ?

In my view, bearing in mind that we saw very little of him last season because of the aforementioned injury, if Huggins is fit enough for competitive football, then SAFC should be the ones to take the risk of a recurrence.

There is an implicit arrogance in concluding that a player is fit enough/good enough for a ‘lesser club’ to take the risk, but not for Sunderland to do so.

It is one thing to offer a young player coming through the ranks (for example, Ellis Taylor) the opportunity to gain experience, it is quite another to try and palm off a player who needs to re-establish confidence in his fitness.
