NHS Dentists

Just been informed no more NHS treatment at my local dentist, we have to pay £15 per month...are there any NHS dentists left to join? Last thing I need is another 15 x3 pm outgoing.

I've been using The Green Dental Surgery in Southwick for about fifteen years. They've been fine.

That could be a harsh assessment? From what I understand the dentists just can't afford to offer NHS treatment any more as they are not funded properly.
It wasn't a harsh assessment. Oliver's went fully private a long time ago and became a dentist to local celeb's and footy players. It's a short walk from where I live and my wife and daughter were registered with them. Pay for a private plan or leave were the choices. It didn't affect me as I was with a dentist on Chester rd and have been for decades. I nearly switched to Oliver's in the nineties but I'm glad I didn't.

This is the one I go to, they are brilliant and I'm luckily still NHS.

However when I am in the waiting room and people ring up all they ever push is the 'affordable private health care'. They also have adverts up all over the walls about it. Whenever people phone to book an appointment they are always fully booked for the 'foreseeable future' but they can get you in if you go private.

I really hope labour win the next election otherwise I can see all dentists going completely private.

I got kicked off my dentist's list when I moved house in 2008 and couldn't get in a new NHS one despite having moved house again since. I haven't been to the dentist for 15 years. I won't pretend my teeth are great but I've been fortunate in that I've not had any issue that really needed attention. Probably catch up with me at some point.

I currently don't have one, found out today. Rang every NHS dentist that was viable with no joy. So aye, looking to go private which is a pisser.
Same boat. Was registered down the town but because I haven’t had any teeth problems (basically haven’t gave them money) since 2018 I’ve been removed. Rang bupa and they wanted £56 quid just to take a look…

Our dentist at Bridge End is now going private only, seems to be happening all over.

I'm registered with the one in John Street but haven't been for ages. Going to ring them on Monday. Good chance they will have deregistered me. What's the situation like for kids?

Was with Wessington Dental practice as a NHS patient but they went private and I just chose to stay with him ( I knew him and he was good) as happens though he retired and BUPA took it over. Still with them and was on dental plan till the other month when they put charges up.
Will just pay for a yearly check up rather than 6 monthly and hygienist every 8 months rather than the 6 previously.

Last time there it was £124 for 5 minute check up and hygienist and weirdly I pay more for that rather than the dentist

Begrudge it but always looked after my choppers ( saw what happened with my mam who hated dentists and it resulted in early dentures )

I was with Oliver's on Durham Road for years. In fact, since I was a kid, and the Dentist then who had the practice was a Mr Hudson. Michael Oliver was Mr Hudson's apprentice in the late 1970's and learned his profession under him and the NHS.
Michael inherited this practice, and years later decided to go all-out private.
The patients were given Hobson's Choice : whether to pay money to Denplan and stay there, or go elsewhere.
An absolute shame for a man who learned his trade under the NHS to then turn his back on it and his patients - for his own financial gains.
If the charging system for nhs work was better then he wouldn’t have changed.

NHS dentistry went completely tits up in 2006-7.

Under labour.

They changed the system in which dentists had to work and it was a f***ing nightmare. Supposedly good for patients but shocking for dentists.
Turned out shocking for both.

Is that Silver & Charlton by any chance?

That is who I am with. They are only doing emergency work NO Adult checkups, but they do checkups for kids which is strange as they won't get paid for them.

Aye that's the one. Not so bothered for myself but my daughter who is 10 has an issue that needs looking at. I'll give them a ring next week. It's crap but kids should be the priority for free treatment as their teeth are still developing.
