Reluctantly I've come around to Mowbray. Neil was no more than a solid, competent Championship manager. It's all we need for now. I'd not be disappointed if we got someone else though.

Michael O'Neill - available, would be motivated, though we won't be able to match his last club salary by some distance.

I don't think I am serious

For those that want Manning, do you think we have the players and the type of crowd (especially at home) to play tippy tappy stuff at the back? Is transitioning to that format something we can do in a season where the goal is to stay up?

My main hope is that we don't get a re-run of the Keane fiasco. It would have been suicidal to appoint him! Of the main three candidates mentioned, I wouldn't go for Barry but I can see wisdom in the other two. Mowbray is a safe pair of hands, plays the right style of attacking football for our squad, has a good track record of developing players and has a decent record in management. I don't see him as an upgrade on Neil, but he would be a very safe bet so I wouldn't be throwing a tantrum if he was appointed. I can equally see the wisdom in Manning as he ticks a lot of the same boxes as Mowbray. He lacks Mowbray's experience, but I think he makes up for that by being a young, rising star so he matches the 'model' we're using for the rest of the club.

Outside of those three, I think Dyche would be a very good appointment and I think Rooney could be worth a punt. The main thing here is that I'm OK with Neil going because if he didn't want to buy into the model that is working well for us, he had to go anyway, regardless of Stoke's interest. We can also take solace from the fact that all of these names, with the exception of Barry, would be very sound appointments so it's not like we're scraping around the dregs as we have done in years gone by.

Good article, he sounds as funny & mad as box of frogs, I fear this juggernaut may be to big for him.
I think you are correct. Manning sounds a more focussed type of individual. He has quite a bit of experience such as WHU U23 coach, the New York FC, the a team in Belguim as Head Coach, then MK Dons. Admittedly he has only been head coach for two seasons but he performed well in both of those jobs. Of course, he's a risk but it just seems to fit our whole club ethos more than Mowbray. If Mowbray has attended all the games this season it makes me wonder whether he is being lined up for a different role.

I thought Mowbray might be lined up for an academy job.

You didn't see them last year then? It was really fast, counter attacking football with a high press. They took us apart and look really good to watch. I think we'd love his style.
