Newcastle players go on media strike

It is last season's bonus that has not been paid.
To be shared among the players was £4m for 17th and £1m per place higher after.
£11m is still a few hundred thousand quid each and whether they're on 10k or 50k that is still a substantial amount money to be owed and not paid.
I’ve no issue with that if that’s what was agreed. No matter what business you’re in, you should always do what you say you are going to do.

Ashley will love this, think reverse psychology.... players that they are looking to sign will think “wtf?” and go elsewhere, Mike pulls a master stroke in not spending further in this window. The season starts, Mike looks to sell with the club looking in a far better position financially......

Think it took until September last year for them to agree a bonus scheme for 17/18 that was in line with other clubs of a similar position, this after months of trying to get paid their promotion bonus.

Who is ultimately responsible for this? Charnley? Ashley?

Ashley.
The reports from last year say it was finally resolved after Lascelles as team captain talked it out with Ashley.

Part of the reason Hughton was sacked was because the players wouldn't sign a bonus sheet as the offer was derisory and tried to force the players into signing it. Joey Barton speaks about it ij his book and on a QPR podcast about it(clip is on YouTube somewhere). Hughton was seen as being unable to control his players, and among the senior ones allegedly leading the revolt were soon out the door, Barton and Nolan

Didn’t know that. Thanks.

Tbf this sort of thing has been pretty common in the game for years. It happened at Sunderland and Quinny negotiatiated a bonus with Bob Murray. The players were threatening to down tools then.

The machinations of your mind are a beauty to behold. Ever considered a career as an evil genius?

Should just play this instead of having the walk ups. Means so much more.

Damn your eyes. How dare you post such filth on a family forum. In anyone’s language that is an affront to common decency. May god forgive you.

Morale at the club already at rock bottom before the season even starts.

Fans hate the owner
Manager hates the owner
Players hate the owner

Definitely a relegation fight on the cards.
Awful start to the season fixtures-wise anarl. Let the meltdown begin

Funny thing is the players arses are probably twitching as it’s the first revolt - best hope they don’t get used to it and it all gets too comfortable or they’ll do it more often (see our rotten core for the outcome)
