Im not arsed either way but do they really have 6 million 'fans ??

If newcastle have 6 million fans as stated and Sunderland have 1.3 million or whatever, and on average over the last 5 years or so newcastle have had around 6 to 7k more fans at the game, then that means that our fans are far more committed than theirs

Making them the 7th best supported team in the Premier League, according to a survey published in today's Times (page 91).

Yet people on here whinge on when we get lower attendances than them.

What a crock of shite, and I bet he spoke every single one of them to confirm this anarl

Newcastle are a big club but are the only big club who wank themselves silly about being a big club with decent crowds and that makes them look pretty small time to onlookers.

In my opinion there are big clubs, and well supported clubs. These are completely different. Big clubs have the support of millions and win trophies. Trophies being the main factor in this. Teams such as newcastle are well supported clubs...not big clubs! Sunderland, for its stature and area around it for the crowd we get makes us a well supported club in certain ways, but not a big club.

I just love the bitterness in here when our CL adventures are brought up (nothing has changed like, Villa were shit when we put six past them as well) It's like Duncan Goodhew mocking Noel Gallagher's haircut. And for the record, here's how 'quite poor' Barca were that night...

Barcelona (1-3-4-2): Hesp; Celades; Reiziger, Nadal, Sergi; Figo, De la Pena, Amunike (Ciric, h-t), Rivaldo; Enrique, Anderson (Dugarry, 55). Substitutes not used: Abelardo, Amor, Pizzi, R Garcia, Busquets (gk).

He was only 11 and clearly better at tennis. 10 man Barca.

and a 9 year old Busquets as sub keeper.

I'd be embarrased to beat that side.

So by that logic, Birmingham City, who have the Carling Cup in their cabinet, are a bigger club than Newcastle and Sunderland. I would never have guessed.

Got to agree, wanking themsleves stupid at beating a side that was assembled to play in a charity match.

Aye, but you'd give your back teeth to have seen your lads put one over the mighty Barca at the SoL in the CL, no matter what team they put out ;)

13th in the world too. Newcastle aren't a big club though eh? ;)
I'd imagine if the survey had've been done about 5-10 years ago, before Spurs threatened for the CL and before City's influx of cash, we'd be above them too.

No you won't, Korean players haven't done the wonders many expect it to do for Sunderland for Bolton, Celtic and others in the past. This myth that having a Korean player will generate lots of new income and interest from overseas needs to be put to bed.

And 5 years before that, they would have been above you and you wouldn't have even made the list.
