The first was never a pen. Asprilla was clearly looking for it.

Who was your manager? King Kenny?

How did you do under him, I can't remember. John Barnes and Ian Rush?

Yeah, we beat Bacelona at home in the Champions League though. Lack of money so free agents had to be brought in.

The tough years!

Honestly don't know what's more embarrassing in this thread, Sunderland fans criticising the mags' attendances, or Sunderland fans criticising the mags' European record. :-(

Well, what do you want us to do? Sit here and f***ing pat them on the back as they attempt to take the piss? Fuck off man, aye lets let the dirty fuckers walk all over us eh?

Don't know why I bother.

It wasn't a mag who started the thread though was it?

Aye, they won the league whilst Newcastle finished 13th... clearly we're talking about a massive gap in quality between the Prem and La Liga here, its like bragging beating Celtic because they're a huge club but in reality... its nowt to shout about is it?

lol

Real Madrid won the Champions League that season btw

Making them the 7th best supported team in the Premier League, according to a survey published in today's Times (page 91).

Yet people on here whinge on when we get lower attendances than them.

Do 5 million africans walking around in mag strips with Greenalls they got from the red cross count as fans?

At least with Sunderland, we can take the piss out of anyone, including ourselves. That's a big difference in the preference stakes. Heeds up yer arses.

Can't understand why anyone's even getting upset about it. It's, at best, a guesstimate and means precisely fuck all. Who gives a fuck?

I couldnt care less if it says we have 6 million fans worldwide the only ones that count are the fans in the local area who fill our ground and those that fill your ground week in week out when neither of us have won fuck all in years.

it's highly doubtful isn't it in truth though?

Suppose that's a fair attitude in a fair post. But I think we must consider how the 90's turned some people's heads, as far as taking an interest in your lot is concerned.

Canny night, we lost 3-1 but Shola ran Barca ragged for half an hour. Turned up the night before as well (been on the lash all day down the Rambla's) only to find out at the ground that it had been called off. Stupid pissed up punters we were; had to do it all again the next day.

Anyway, one day lads and you might get the chance to play there. We lost but it was fantastic.

Ah, the San Siro, we played f***ing well that night. Great night.

The point here is; stop talking shite. We were there & have the T-Shirts. Trying to pretend it didn't happen or the opposition was shite just makes you look petty and jealous.

fwiw, I'd have no problem whatsoever if you got there.

We may look petty and jealous but its you spending friday night on your rivals board you sad little twat

I'll readily admit they have a far bigger fanbase than us locally, Nationally and Internationally. I'm also 40 years old and have never seen them win a trophy in my lifetime so their huge fanbase counts for nothing there.

I'm also big enough to admit I was jealous as fuck watching their supporters going to the likes of Barcelona, Milan, Juventus, Feyenoord and the like in the champions league. Seeing SAFC playing at any of those venues in the biggest club competition in the world would be unbelievable. One day maybe.

Our support counts for nothing as we haven't won a trophy in 40 years?

Probably sums up everything that's wrong with the sky generation. If I wanted to support a team that won trophies, I'd support Man U. Thats not what 'support' is about mate.

Did yous get a trophy for playing in these grounds or a scroll ? Bet Inter and Barca fans cant even remember the said games or would just laugh at you

Not many teams beat them in La Liga that season tbh

But teams did beat them wonder if they still go on about it 15yrs or so on

Can't be arsed to find the fixtures but winning the league normally entails not losing that many games squire.

Dont see yous banging on about this game against Barcelona much

March 2003, Second Group Stage
Newcastle 0-2 Barcelona
Needing to win to reach the quarter finals, Bobby Robson’s team were no match for the Spanish side, who won comfortably through Patrick Kluivert and Thiago Motta.
