IIRC barcelona didnt win any of the CL games that year. They were far from the team of today, no matter how much you wish

This.

Sunderland beat Man City 3-1 in 1997 that must mean we're awesome because they're good now...

Still got me 'Into the Light' poster. Cracking match!

Just a blur for me most of it. I remember quinny scoring and going mental, thats about it. The main thing that sticks in my mind is the sheer wall of noise when he scored and seeing this magnificent stadium just erupt for the first time. A special moment. f***ing hate the place now

I know mate. Being there and knowing it was ours! Then seeing some of the best football I have seen in my life that season!

I do not for one minute consider that our level is second tier footy, but it's always better to watch. Probs that big fish in small pond feeling? Dishing out cricket scores every other week on the way to yet another unwanted CCC title.

I much prefer the lower leagues. Apart from the actual football its just alot more fun there. I cant stand the premier. Obviously i want sunderland to be the best we can be but i do miss it. On the bright side if we got relegated again i wouldnt be too crushed anymore

I know what you're saying mate. It's wrong that it wouldn't hurt if it were to happen again. I think loads of us feel like that now!

It won't happen though! Bigger and better things will come one day. KTF!

They won the league that season by 9 points you pleb, that night superstars such as Rivaldo, Luis Enrique and Luis Figo graced the SJP pitch. This myth that it was a poor Barcelona team is exactly that, a myth.

Now sit back and be educated on a great European footballing night in the North East. At least one of us has represented the region properly eh?

Aye, they won the league whilst Newcastle finished 13th... clearly we're talking about a massive gap in quality between the Prem and La Liga here, its like bragging beating Celtic because they're a huge club but in reality... its nowt to shout about is it?

lol

The first was never a pen. Asprilla was clearly looking for it.

Who was your manager? King Kenny?

How did you do under him, I can't remember. John Barnes and Ian Rush?
