New pub(s) in Sunderland

Had a look through the window in Flannigans.

and its, carling, fosters, john smiths & strongbow.

 really?

Whats irish about that? They sell Guiness. Everywhere sells Guiness.

The one that it replaced had a shit selection of drinks. It's either going to fail or if drink is cheap enough end up like another Josephs.
Doing murphys as well :)

It doesn't sell Carling! Plenty of live music planned good to see an empty pub open again and busy. The Guinness and Murphy's were spot on.

I didnt have proper look, just noticed it was the usual boring standard fayre.

Why not replace john smiths with Kilkenny cream ale, try and get harp lager. And surely at the very least have magners as your standard draught cider. (Dunno if they have or not, but didnt recall seeing it)

And is any of the live music irish? As the acts they had for the opening as mentioned previously in thread arent.

It is great that an empty pub is being opened & someone is having a go. But it just seems so half arsed. If youre going to open a business, then at least try to do it properly otherwise it'll probably just end up closed again within the year.

They are tied to Heineken so they are restricted to certain drinks. They have Irish music planned.
Remember the one that on the corner what’s Ps and Qs now? Went in once and the only Irish thing about it was a picture of Niall Quinn behind the bar.
It was called Kilkenny's and was owned by two Irish brothers.

Bar in the middle, like an island. Belter of a jukebox, good drink selection and lifting bogs. Tremendous.

Only been in once since it got refurbished. Won't be in again (it was on a neet).
I think your memory is a bit hazy there mate.

Let's hope people actually go instead of not, then moaning it's shut.

Poor choice of ale. Decor is naff. The layout is crap compared to before. Has it also fucked off the jukebox?

If you want cheap lager and sport then as you say, jobs a good un.
I only ever used to go in to the central on a match day like. Last pint before heading over the bridge.

Kilkennys or summit. Never went in.
The black bull in its final days tried to rebrand itself as an irish bar as one last grasp at straws. They drew a shamrock on the wall.
That’s the one, absolutely shite.

So that was 3 Irish things in the bar then
