New Phone

Out of those you listed get the Desire HD.

Do NOT listen to HBT and his waffle about Nokias, they aren't even an option anymore, go for Android, iOS, Blackberry.

The desire hd is a nice fast well built phone. I kept it for just over a month then went back to an iPhone but Android has a lot to offer still and much more in the pipeline. Apple need to bring something very funky out with the nex installment of iOS if they are to keep up with what Android offers and will offer.

You could always hang fire and go for the next gen dual core Android devices due but then your gonna be paying about 35/month.

I recommended the N8 to my daughter (no pics) and had a chance to mess around with it when she got it. It's a tremendous piece of hardware, but the current UI is not very pleasant to use on a capacitive touchscreen IMO.

With the revamp I hope they really go to town on it, the phone deserves a first class UI. I've already got my Desire HD and don't regret it one bit, but maybe my next phone will be another Nokia if the UI equals Android's. Nokia phones always seem like they won't break easily, and the N8 is no exception.

That's exactly my trouble - they're both great phones. I just can't choose. I badly want an FM transmitter, good audio quality, hardware H.264 with HDMI output (portable HTPC!), USB host mode, top battery life, exchangeable battery, Ovi Maps, and (finally!) a proper camera on a phone, and I love the look and build quality of the N8 too. And I'm increasingly sure that Symbian has a (ahem) "sexy" future that starts quite soon, the Ovi ecosystem is quite good now, and I'm familiar with all that. But the screen is lower res and the phone can be a bit sluggish on things that can't use the h/w graphics acceleration.

OTOH I want a bigger screen, more powerful CPU and to play with Android.

And then there's the Tegra 2 phones just coming out. And then there's the Tegra 3 phones in the autumn, which will have mind blowing performance (proper computers). And then there's a 1ghz N8 follow up promised around then too. Oh and the MeeGo phone.

And then and then and then. What's the betting I'm still a glazed eyed 5800 user this time next year!

BTW if you didn't already, checkout the vids for the Symbian updates in the lik I posted above, and comment against the N8 now.

This is the minor update that's more or less out now:

This is the major UI revamp for the summer. Unfortunately its just shot from the back of a presentation, but how cool is it that those TVs on the left and right are being run directly by a couple of N8s (HDMI out) running a beta of it!:

You're a typical factually challenged fanboy who knows fuck all about anything. I wouldn't listen to you if you told me my trousers were on fire and I'd already been wondering what the smell of burning pubes was. FACT.

This is exactly what I'm waiting for. When's it's exact release date?

That nokia UI revamp looks gash......not a million miles away from what they have already and miles behind both Apple and HTC. I fully expect to get flames for saying that but ffs when are Nokia going to stop flogging that dead horse.

IOS for usability, Android for those who like to customise their phones and Symbian for those who are on their soapbox about the good old days.
