New Music Releases Thread

I have to bump this Julien Baker record, Sprained Ankle, again. One for all the sad lads and fans of Sharon Van Etten, Sufjan Stvens etc. Completely different vibe but Anderson .Paak's new record is class and all. Summery as fuck West Coast soul.

I heard the full Whitney (ex Smith Westerns) album again this week; some brilliant moments but sadly loses a bit of its charm with repeat listens. 'No Woman' is the best tune on there for me.

If anyone wants a rundown of brand new stuff - debut singles/EPs and the like - I'll put something together tomorrow while it's quiet at work.

Only £19 return and it was either that or come back to the north east, only one winner there. Album was canny in first listen so I'll definitely go to that gig, that venue seems quite cool as well.

Ulrika Spacek tonight, one for you there DM, think you'll enjoy that record.

Two or three listens and I was hooked. Even more so after seeing it performed live. Enjoy. #jealous

Cheers mate, I shall check that out.

Yeah, get a list knocked up.

Shit the bed, Ulrika Spacek are f***ing superb. Up there with Viet Cong in those bands kind of live stakes.

Reckon they should ditch the slower songs though in favour of the drum driven stuff. It's bloody class.

Will give a fair few of them a listen when I get a chance.

End of this month the Afro Celt Sound System release their latest album Born, if it's anything like previous efforts it will be a great mix of world music.

"Music streaming services are great for discovering new bands" - this weeks new albums for listening to are PJ Harvey and Ben Harper  I think I must just gravitate to the familiar!

In my defence, Cate Le Bon is also on my list. I hadn't heard of her but apparently she's pals with Gruff Rhys so should be worth a listen.

Cate Le Bon is excellent. I wasn't quite as keen on the DRINKS album she made with Tim Presley from White Fence last year but her solo albums are all well worth a listen. She's got an amazing voice and is a very good guitarist. Her stuff is obviously influenced by SFA/Gurff Rhys (he was her landlord when she lived in Cardiff, according to a book I read) and Gorky's but also some less Welsh psychedelia.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes have a new album out without much fanfare and it's ace! Cate le Bon great as expected and PJ Harvey's new album sounds lovely!
