New Music Releases Thread

Changed my mind on M83, it's great. Well it's not that great but yeah. Road Blaster is a great song though, as is Sunday Night 1987. They're allowed one iffy album.

Think this might be Frightened Rabbit's best work aside from Midnight Organ Fight but that's not really saying too much. Good album though, tracklist reads more like a Twilight Sad album than one of Frabbit's which is never a bad thing. Excited to see some of the songs performed given how much better they are live than on record.

Also a big fan of Black Mountain, thanks to whoever it was who mentioned them in here a couple of pages back as I didn't even realise they had a new one coming out.

Not necessarily new, but new to me, this is the list of my vinyl splurges this week:

Spoon- Gimme Fiction
Spoon - They Want My Soul
Wooden Shjips - Back To Land
Temples - Sun Structures
The Black Angels - Indigo Meadow
Dan Auerbach -Keep It Hid
Gov't Mule - Shout!
Heartless Bastards - Restless Ones
Benjamin Booker - Benjamin Booker
Two Gallants - We Are Undone
Houndmouth - Little Neon Limelight
Shakey Graves - And The War Came
Allah Las - Worship The Sun \
Allah Las - Allah Las
Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats - Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats
D'Angelo and The Vanguard - Black Messiah
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
Ween - Chocolate and Cheese

Oh and the classic - Sly and The Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On

Bit confused by Mystery Jets

They have turned good

Radlands is very good.

I particularly like this track from Wooden Shjips 2 and 1/2 years old but still great.

Probably not very "cool" on here, but I've downloaded the new Deftones (the tine Feds lol) album for today's commute!
Thoughts? I've only given it one proper listen so far and there's songs I really enjoy, songs I enjoy and songs I don't. The two that stand out the most at the moment are Doomed User and Geometric Headdress.
It's definitely less heavy but has the atmosphere and melodies that you'd normally find with them.
I think it will take at least five proper listens to form a real opinion of it though - Deftones' records are normally growers.

Big fan of frightened rabbit, think Aaron dessner's production is good, makes them sound a bit more big league while keeping their sound.

Also from this week's releases deftones is good, basically sounds like a deftones album which is no bad thing

Future of the left is excellent, typically them

M83 I'm struggling with, had a few goes and it just seems to pass me by

Can't say I was that impressed to be honest, but I maybe just wasn't quite in the mood for it. I haven't listened to them for about 10 years (maybe more like 15) though.

I've been using Wikipedia as my source for new album releases and I'm guessing I probably shouldn't - absolutely no mention of there being a new Dandy Warhols album out so that's now playing!

It's a lot different to their other stuff. I've had a few more listens and I quite enjoy it now.

The KVB in Manchester last night were absolutely superb. Their new album just gets better and better and better. (Would definitely get amongst the female half of the duo as well).

@oldmanofthemountain

How was the Warm Digits gig on saturday mate ? Any new stuff played etc
Aye it was a cracking gig, there was a lot of new stuff but as usual they didn't have much of a break between songs so it all merged into one. The drummer, I think called Andy was solid throughout and didn't look like he broke a sweat! I had a word with him and he said the new album is finished but needs to be mixed etc. Although it was sold out there seemed plenty space for a few more to get in.
There was also a small beer festival on there as well with some lovely ales.

As mentioned earlier, Future of the Left's album is excellent

I mentioned XIXA and another thread. They have connections to Calexico and Giant Sand but more Latin influenced rather than country.

"Wide Majestic Aire" is Trembling Bells' new mini-album. Best thing they've done by far for me. Folk prog type stuff.

"Ears" by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is, I guess, ambient electronica. Very floaty...

"Pennied Days" by Night Moves is a bit War on Drugs but gone a bit more AoR radio, if that makes sense.

Last newy for me this week is "Channel the Spirits" by The Comet is Coming. They have connections to both Melt Yourself Down and Polar Bear and are like the former without vocals.

GAve Parquet Courts a listen as well - sounds decent...

I love their early more acid folk-Incredible String Band sound but find their newer rockier stuff not quite as good - I take it this is in the same vein as their last album?

Having only had a passing interest in the band before, I am absolutely loving the new Dandy Warhols album! Early contender for album of the year IMO.
