New Boiler Cost

I’d be getting another quote at least and wouldn’t be touching a glowworm.
my firm used to fit Glowworm all the time but the quality fell off a cliff and we now fit all Worcester
I've got a Bosch/Worcester and was told they can rust & fail if they were going to be located in cold/damp atmosphere e.g. a garage - but no problems so far, I paid £17/1800 for just a straight boiler swap a couple of years back.

I suspect the preference for different makes is more about commission than anything else, but I suppose if the engineer you use prefers a certain one he will likely be more competent at servicing it.

I think there's an element of this.

Struggling to even get anybody round to look so will just have to bite the bullet I think.

10 year warranty on the boiler so I should be alright in terms of keeping the thing working.

Cheers lads and lasses.

Around where?
Sunderland is dominated by baxis and Main (same boilers just different brand)
Ideal new range is very good it seems, but the old Isars were shit.
Sunderland. Had a few companies in recently for quotes as we are doing a renovation. All favoured the new ideals. Wasn't sure if they had an incentive for themselves:lol:

My mother in law needed a new combi. She has dementia and is 85. We got a quote from a local firm that was £800 dearer than the ‘free combi’ that was on the go from eon. The local guy came around and said they can put it in the crawl space under the house with a wifi thermostat in the hall. Eon guy came around complaining he had to travel through the Tyne Tunnel and was full of hell. I told him about the local firm but he snapped that’s not what he wants to do. He wanted to run a pipe from the pavement, up the drive into the house and taking the floorboards up in the hall and dining room. In a house with an 85 year old dementia person.
So we paid the extra £800 and it works just great for her with a 12 year guarantee compared to eons 2 year guarantee.
Sometimes cheaper is not always better.

Same here , cos I'm near hull where they're made . Not bad though carry a 10 year guarantee.
Ideal have always done well for contract work. Tried over the last few years to create some up-market models to compete with Worcester and Vaillant. Baxi are a middling brand, nothing really special. Most now off an extended guarantee if you fit their recommended filter system.
Given a choice, I'd always go for a Worcester or Vaillant.

Got a problem with my boiler and need it replacing ASAP.

Been quoted £3,330 for:

New Glowworm Ultimate 30 combi
Powerflush current heating system
Moving gas pipes and rerouting to new boiler location
Capping gas at current locations
Removal of current boiler

Reckons it's 3 days work....

Does this sound about right? Feels expensive to me
Too expensive
Get another quote or two

New Bosch installed upstairs.

Had a baxi put in by british gas in my old house. Charged 4k. Broke after a year and ended up upgrading to Worcester for no extra cost because of all the bother we had.

The black water tank in my loft had to stay there when I had a Combi installed as the bugger is too big to come out of the loft hatch.

That had happened in our old house. They'ed obviously changed the boiler but left the tank in the loft. If it came to it I'm sure we could cut it up to get it down.

26 pages and 3 bans incoming.

Another lad said he’d come round yesterday and didn’t as he said he was busy on another job last night.

I know he flew to Dubai last night.

Mental.
