To the letter of the law...

Careless” means that the player has shown a lack of attention or
consideration when making a challenge or that he acted without precaution.
• No further disciplinary sanction is needed if a foul is judged to be careless
“Reckless” means that the player has acted with complete disregard to the
danger to, or consequences for, his opponent.
• A player who plays in a reckless manner must be cautioned
“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary
use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
• A player who uses excessive force must be sent off

Seems to be between the second and third for me.

Good post

Think that conclusively proves the ref got it absolutely spot on

He didn't need to raise his knee that wasn't natural at all

Sorry like but I'm inclined to go with the decision of professional and ex referees over a random internet fella who has obviously never so much as set foot on a football pitch

Is it ok for a player to lead with a elbow? Do why can a keeper lead with his knee in the face I'm not talking about jumping with one up for protection I'm talking about jumping with it towards someone's face, he should of either kept knee down or not went for the ball he didn't even need to he was wide and on edge of the box it's was a totally wreckless and irresponsible challenge

Rubbish man, it's the natural way to jump if you're jumping using the whole of your leg to get as high as possible or do you just flex your ankles when you jump.

his follow-through was natural. He inadvertently cleaned out Higuain but there was no case for a penalty.

This is the bit which irks me. So what if it was natural or inadvertent? That doesn't stop a challenge from being dangerous! Not every foul is deliberate, you know.

Anyone thats ever played a number of games as a forward from parks level upwards, knows (rightly or wrongly) keepers never get penalised for these types of incidents. As a forward you have a split second decision to make in whether to persue the ball or to err on the side of self preservation. After all, you wouldn't stick your ankle in the way of a defender's boot when he's hoofing the ball up field as there's a good chance its going to get shattered. Keepers are always going to feel entitled to come for such ball's and I'd want mine to do just that every time. On first seeing the incident my first thoughts were of hand ball, maybe just showing my age but no foul for me.
