Neuer should be off

For those saying it was a foul, or possibly even a sending off.:lol:

What did you expect the keeper to do?

Thanks for the link. Looks like dangerous play from the keeper, although you could argue it's 2 players going for a 50/50 ball and one getting there first. If an outfield player wins the ball with a raised leg, what would the referee do?
Given that Nueur got the ball when it was behind Higuain I'd argue the latter got there first

If a outfield player sccissor kicks the ball away its dangerous play if its near peoples heads its dangerous play by the keeper u have to use your loaf when to go for a ball he lead with his knee, higuain was about to bring it down on his chest

People seem to think its ok to wipe someone out as long as you get the ball first, its not the 80s the rules have changed the challenge has to be responsible and this wasnt

Would love to be a 'keeper. The amount of protection they get of referees is ridiculous. Can't believe Neuer actually won the free kick for that.

How should the keeper have approached the challenge?
Is it ok for a player to lead with a elbow? Do why can a keeper lead with his knee in the face I'm not talking about jumping with one up for protection I'm talking about jumping with it towards someone's face, he should of either kept knee down or not went for the ball he didn't even need to he was wide and on edge of the box it's was a totally wreckless and irresponsible challenge

How should the keeper have approached the challenge?

Well he shouldn't have cleaned out the attacker, for one. If the only way of getting to the ball is to take out the attacker in the process, he shouldn't be making the challenge.

Personally I can see why rules may be slightly different for goalkeepers (fair enough if you don't see it that way) but in this instance what he did was very dangerous.

GRAHAM POLL'S VERDICT
Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli came up with a baffling decision early in the second half when Manuel Neuer clashed with Gonzalo Higuain.
The Germany goalkeeper had every right to go for the ball with his fist, made a clean connection and his follow-through was natural. He inadvertently cleaned out Higuain but there was no case for a penalty.
For some observers it may have brought back memories of West German goalkeeper Harald Schumacher’s awful challenge on Patrick Battiston of France in a 1982 semi-final (above). But it was nothing like it for dangerous play.
However, why Rizzoli decided to award Germany a free-kick was a mystery.
A throw-in to Argentina would have been the right choice.

So how do you explain the other side of the coin when it is suggested that if a defender *puts his leg there* it gives the forward the opportunity to go down.

What are defenders supposed to do?

He didn't need to raise his knee that wasn't natural at all

He wouldn't have jumped as hugh without raising his knee. He was at full stretch to get to it as it was.

Throw in for Argentina. No bookings, no foul, certainly no "Neuer should be off".

3 Yellows is bang on with this one.

To the letter of the law...

danger to, or consequences for, his opponent.
• A player who plays in a reckless manner must be cautioned

Seems to be between the second and third for me.
