Worrying that staying in a warzone is more in his comfort zone than moving to the North East.
Today’s update from my mate in Ukraine:

It’s being reported in their press that Shakhtar have entered the race to sign him; have offered more than our bid; and the player sees the move there as more in his comfort zone.
Well that's a surprise. ££££££££££

Same scenario time after time this summer.

Exactly this, I admire not being fucked about and overcharged, but for the sake of a couple of hundred thousand, someone will step in.
As we've seen over the years and especially this summer we either pay the going rate for a centre forward or they go elsewhere. They appear to be gambling on getting someone more cheaply. Less than a fortnight to see if they were right. Prices usually go up the closer you get to deadline day though weve seen that ourselves.

Who else were we in for? The (Croatian?) lad who went to Belgium?

But this is how it works. The club have to privately say to themselves this is our absolute maximum bid and don't go past it. This way the club get a reputation for being honest with 'final offer'. Once clubs think they can eek a bit extra out of you then everyone will. It will mean we miss out on some players, that's football.

Burnley did it with Clarke.

I remember people complaining we did not offer more wages to Wyke than Wigan did. Sometimes you have to have a value for a player, and if someone else values them more, good luck to them.

3 bids made - between 1.5 and 2.5 million

they want 3 million - haggling over half a million when in desperate need of a striker

if that doesn't tell you we are trying to do things on the cheap nothing will

Doing it on the cheap would be bringing in a free. We’re willing to pay what the club values him at.

How many times have you seen him play? What would you value him at? Or would you just give them the money they want and not get the best deal possible?
