National Holidays goes into administration

Quite a few friends. Maybe it’s blind optimism

and I’m talking general society rather than people actually furloughed .

I was asking me dads neighbour if he was still at work as it was an on and off thing, I was discussing how it will take months and months just to get back to some sort of normality whatever that may be when the restrictions are ended.
Other than that, I've not asked anyone what they think is going to happen as it's a complete mess and an unknown and no one has asked me either.

Even if they did, I'd have no idea.
Who knows I might not even have a job?

Worrying times for all those except the most comfortable

Not just going to be the big coach firms in trouble unfortunately, going to be all the ones that run in little towns and city’s that do the theatre trips, holiday trips and all the school runs, school trips etc.
Even the main private run bus companies on lots of towns doing service routes will be struggling like fuck with a massive down turn in passengers and a lot running effectively Sunday services and drivers on furlough.
Sounds cold, but the fallout from the virus has every chance to be far worse that the virus itself ☹️

It will be a lot worse imo.

The Goverment should’ve been at hand to bail the travel industry out. They were happy enough bailing out banks 10 years back

Shame. Taken the bairns on some nice trips over the years. Went to manchester xmas market with them last year and was lovely.
Some hotels closing as well apparantly. Eden Arms at Rushyford is i think.

The govt is going to be bailing a load out, I doubt they are going to be able to save everyone unfortunately.
And as for travel industry what would be the scope for that are we talking? from airlines and airline manufacturers, right down to every hotel to the smallest b&b? As well as all bus companies country wide etc etc.
Pretty much every aspect of the country’s economy is going to take a kicking. I doubt even the most free spending of govts could cover everything.
The retail industry and pub industry is going to have similar massive problems, the building industry the same, the list could go on and on
Personally i think so far the govts stepped upto the plate financially, how long they can carry it on and the scope is the million dollar question

They have paid the wages of all the staff for last 3 months..
As well as rates relief, making banks do mortgage holidays and extending them for another 3 month as well, company grants and the massive loans they will be helping industries with too, the scope of it is pretty vast

There’s at least 3 round here that aren’t small 1 man self employed type things, these are medium sized companies.
One runs the local town buses, half the drivers still furloughed and next to no customers on the buses that do run, next to no oldies using them, and zero school kids.
Another runs a shit load of the school runs to the private schools and does a lot of the school trips and does theatre weekends and the like, and a third which does a lot of crossover stuff of the previous two.
The furlough may seem fine just to cover the drivers wages in the very short term but it will be crippling the companies having buses sitting in garages yet still have a lot of the overheads.
The furlough isn’t the silver bullet a lot seem to think it is, all it is doing in a lot of cases is delaying redundancies not preventing them
The same will apply to things like theatres up and down the country, gyms, pubs, none essential shops with rafts of people in different fields
Can the company not claim their usual profits from the self employed scheme?

Or is that only for companies without employees?

I doubt it will cover full profits. If they are only covering 2.5k in lost income a month they aren’t going to pay out for profits.... which a lot of people use as a vehicle to pay themselves through dividends to be tax effective shall we say

Your business insurance may cover it under business interruption but it could well be it isn’t covered and then you’re getting into notifiable diseases and when these are announced, but I’d bet a lot arent covered on their general policies or even specific business interruption policies, and as with all insurance, the devil will be in the small print as I doubt insurance companies or the government will even want to go down that road.
If it was easy enough to claim or possible
To claim profits for the bigger companies (more than a couple of people operation) we wouldn’t be seeing coach companies and the like tumbling because they’d have just claimed to get their expected profits wouldn’t they?
There are govt grants of 10k and 50k for smaller operations which have helped the small companies with rent and the like and there’s the option of loans, but who would take a loan if their having to put up security for the loan on an uncertain future

Been waiting for a refund from a hotel stay I had booked in Harrogate last month. I found out this morning that the hotel was part of the National Holidays group 😐
