Nasty accident on the Hope Road

Imagine how many tanked up drivers will have passed you luckily without incident.
Even sober ones tbf. I'd go mad at my kids if they'd walked home along there. Not one of my finest moments, but you think you're invincible when you're young and full of drink.

Aye. Walked home to Hallfarm a few times from town as a young un pissed. Having one or two more drinks seemed more important than having enough to pay for my taxi sometimes.

Aye , great lad and fit as a butchers dog , both running and cycling , one of nicest lads could meet

I would walk home from town loads but if lived up Ryhope / new tunstall there’s nee way I’d walk Hope road way in the dicky dark 😆

Before I got to know him (our lads are in the same class at school) I would see him pegging about all ower and think he was a machine. Only realised after about a year of knowing him that it was actually the same bloke 😂

Cracking lad

Done the same to doxy but always went past Sainsbury’s and up vicarage road. f***ing nasty walk in the winter that with just a thin shirt on. Pzazz always won with last drinks or taxi fare.

Pzazz was my down fall too. I didn't have a set route. Once walked up Hylton Road, fell over then went to wash my hands in what I thought was a puddle of water and it was oil. Nee idea what the rest of my route was.

Disaster of a road. Needs speed bumps.

Ran to silky from town down the hope in a snowstorm absolutely belted one winter. In loafers. Ice skates would have been more useful.

Oh way before that mate!
That’s correct they used to breed them.
Appleby. That's what they called the folk that had the kennels. Mad how things just come back to you.

Even crazier that you were going the wrong way too.

Sometime over xmas (cold and snowing)I went in the one stop shop at silksworth (she wanted a parcel returning), there was a L200 parked opposite that had the cab folded backwards on the driver’s side like a piece of cardboard. I couldn’t work out how it had happened, looked like something had hit it a glancing blow but had no marks at all on the side.

Asked the woman in the shop WTF (not swearing like) happened to the pickup across the road.

He was driving down the hope road and a dirt bike appeared in front of him, he swerved and the truck flipped landed on its roof and righted itself again– ended up like that (believe that if you want).

He wasn’t injured or anything – said he’s been lucky. Must be the worst road in sunderland for accidents.

We use it pretty much everyday, it’s a shite road and people drive ridiculously on it.

Was on it last Thursday and Saturday and seen 2 accidents
