My Dad's bench

Nice.
I got one for my Mam and Dad but at the cemetery. A note of caution for those considering a bench - they do need a bit of upkeep. The weather and bird shit do their thing and wood and metal do get affected more than you might imagine.

This one is some kind of recycled plastic that looks like wood. It should last longer than a wood one.

I noticed the ones in Stanhope town centre look tatty as the wood is in poor condition and they have lichens on. They offered us the chance to replace one of those but he never sat in the town centre and it was on the path up the hill where he said there should be a bench. It's mainly old folk on the caravan site and their friends agreed it's a good spot for a rest on the way back.

I was in a park yesterday and I noticed two benches from the same familyin totally different parts of the park It was for a lad who had taken his own life

On the inscription. Was some poignant messages and the Samaritans number.

Very sobering..

I know several people on here visit Stanhope often. It's on the main road, about half way between the ford and Greenfoot holiday park. My Dad loved Weardale and they had a static van there for many years. It's a long slow climb back to the caravan site. He always used to stop about here and say "aaaaahs paggared! I wish there was a bench here!" Going to go back next spring and throw a load of bee and butterfly wild flower seeds around it. I still miss him so much especially on match days.
