i give you the hungry heart but thought the working on a dream album was quality, as was his glastonbury performance.

mind I am biased though, i see most things through boss tinted glasses

Is this a whoosh?

Me neither, surpised how much I like the music in the show. I'm sure there'll be some jazz expert along to tell me it's not jazz anyway.
You've got me thinking about a musical trip around America.;)

I think it's a hybrid of jazz, rhythm and blues and a few other things. The music in the show has amazed me.

hands up, whoosh accepted ;)

Leo Sayer and Gilbert O'Sullivan, both had really good first albums, then both were seduced by the TV\show bizz set, shame really, both very talented lads
and good song writers.

I'm a big fan of Rod but all that schmaltzy Cole Porter stuff was definitely a wrong turn. I think he did it after throat cancer surgery as it was easier on his voice. The problem is that the grannies lapped it up and he sold billions so ended up doing four or five CDs. I saw him getting interviewed recently and he said there's a greatest hits of all that crap coming out and then he's finished with it. Wants to do a blues album which would be canny, or a country album god help us.

As for the Style Counil - I was a huge fan of The Jam and was a bit pissed off with Weller for breaking it all up. The first few songs were written while he was in The Jam so sounded similar. Then some of his jazzy stuff like Cafe Bleu was OK. Then he started mincing about with pig face and making that ridiculous Jerusalem film and like I said all that beatnik crap on the record sleeves just gave his critics so much ammo. Completely lost the plot.

If you think Rod Stewarts wrong turn was his "American Songbook" series then you cant have listened to owt he's done since the mid-late 70s marra.

Wellers output in TSC contained as much crap as his Jam days percentage wise imho.

The Beatles took a wrong turn musically around the time they started growing mouschtaches.

Rod did a VH1 Storytellers in the mid nineties and it was brilliant. The one where he's wearing a lime green jacket. You can see how much he still loves singing live.
