Mark K from Dire Straits.
Robert Plant.
Elvis Costello.

Any of the twats that tried to be trendy by recording a CD of old ballads.

Any others?

No sick ones like - Marc Bolan ;)

Weller with all that Capuccino Kid bollocks.

'Now listen up all you cats and chicklets, it's time to get hip to what's groovin and dig the latest ...'

Rod Stewart.

I'm a big fan of Rod but all that schmaltzy Cole Porter stuff was definitely a wrong turn. I think he did it after throat cancer surgery as it was easier on his voice. The problem is that the grannies lapped it up and he sold billions so ended up doing four or five CDs. I saw him getting interviewed recently and he said there's a greatest hits of all that crap coming out and then he's finished with it. Wants to do a blues album which would be canny, or a country album god help us.

As for the Style Counil - I was a huge fan of The Jam and was a bit pissed off with Weller for breaking it all up. The first few songs were written while he was in The Jam so sounded similar. Then some of his jazzy stuff like Cafe Bleu was OK. Then he started mincing about with pig face and making that ridiculous Jerusalem film and like I said all that beatnik crap on the record sleeves just gave his critics so much ammo. Completely lost the plot.

Add to that, the fact that he's about 65 and I think it's reasonable
not to expect him cavorting about the stage belting out black dog.

Watched a documentary on BBC4 about him about a week or so ago, although not a big fan of the music enjoyed watching the program and came across like a thoroughly decent bloke

Bruce Springsteen.
Hungry Heart, and he just kept going.
