Just watched The Devil and Daniel Johnston recently. It came out around 2005. Very interesting regardless of whether you're a fan of his music. His dad retells the story where Daniel removed the keys from the ignition of the small plane they were in and flung them out the window. Daniel believed he was Casper the friendly ghost. Another very good one from 2016 is Where You're Meant To Be (featuring Aidan Moffat and Sheila Stewart).

I saw The Devil and Daniel Johnston at the cinema. As you say, interesting regardless of how you feel about his music.

Tangentially about music, I guess, but the two Gruff Rhys films, Separado! and American Interior are excellent.

Some of Julien Temple's recent docs are very good: The Filth and the Fury, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, Oil City Confidential, The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson etc.
